Re: Chat about anything else!
CITY OF HEROES
You have three choices for doing the Tutorial. I would start with the one on the left, Outbreak, it was the original tutorial and while a bit long covers pretty much all the important things.
The second or middle choice lets you be a villain. So if that's your bag, enjoy it
The last choice is Galaxy City. You get to read a quick comic book before going onto the main screen and the tutorial. This one is fairly quick but a bit more confusing. Also, you can choose to become a hero or a villain during the tutorial.
Originally, players could choose to start in Atlas Park or Galaxy City. Later updates, called issues, had Galaxy City destroyed by invading space monsters and you can now only start in Atlas Park. The Galaxy City tutorial came out as a response to that.
Personally, I would make three characters and try all three out. That will cover just about everything you need to start the game.

Re: Chat about anything else!
Updates tomorrow. Aside from night shifts this week my time has been spent wasting money on drainage companies that charged £235 and make no difference and filling sand bags to limit the water ingress into the garage. Looks like a collapsed drain somewhere on the property (thanks, former owners) so anything I've done up to now has been a sticking plaster that doesn't hold up when the rain really buckets down (like it is right now). I have a drain that gets water from the roof, garage and porch and at some point it caved in somewhere under the concrete and the water gets so far, backs up, fills the drain and overflows into the garage basically.
I'd hoped to update today but I have to try to get some sleep (hopefully 3 hours if I can manage it) and I'm head to toe covered in grime/sand/wet through. These things are sent to test us! I'll get there, just... not today.
Update: Just been outside with a toilet plunger to try and help the outside gutter. Managed to get the water level down (and it's changed from muddy to clear) so we'll see how bad it is. The rain is like a torrent though and the one gutter/drain pipe serving the various rooftops is a joke. That may be a cheaper fix, simply adding another outlet for the rain to disperse by changing the guttering. Right, bed time. Once I've dried off

And this is why I like living in my apartment instead owning a home. I would probably burn the place down getting so frustrated over all those problems you have. My hat is off to you for putting up with it.

Re: Chat about anything else!
Well, a lot of rain (like, heavy all day) is due tomorrow. Sandbags in place and I can but hope the drain is clear enough to deal with it. Fingers crossed!
Re: Chat about anything else!
Updates tomorrow (Thursday). This week has been a bust. Long shifts, ongoing house repairs and decorating and not much in the way of sleep have fried my brain. Totted up to around 7 hours sleep this week (up to Wednesday) and put it down to stressing whether the pounding rain will flood the garage despite my best efforts. However... it seems that the drains are flowing again now (I won't stop crossing my fingers though) and my efforts have finally brought some reasonable success. I was up a ladder (again) today after finishing work slapping on waterproof rubber paint to the porch roof to try and seal that to stop the porch getting wet so that's the next challenge. The TV room is *almost* finished with the decorating and a new garage door gets fitted Monday which is another big bill. I'd get people in to do stuff but I'm spending a lot of money doing things myself so a tradesperson would cost even more and what's worse is that everyone you call is stacked out with work till next year. Nice for them, for me it means rolling up sleeves and getting on with it albeit having to juggle with a 10 hour + work shift too. Reminds me I need to buy a bigger ladder.
I can honestly say the last two and a bit months have been not very enjoyable! Hope you guys are having a better time of things!
Will get there though, watch for the updates when I finish work tomorrow. Cheers Guys.

Wow, that is a lot to deal with, especially given the low capacity for flexibility and the perfect storm of the last year or so making everything much harder still. Sounds like you are making progress Paul, if only as a way to cover yourself before you can get things done to a more satisfactory standard. If you get through the winter, then the clock isn't ticking so much after that.
I did wonder what was amiss but figured that it would be a combination of these things, so glad to see you are making progress. Things are good for me, you may have seen on FB! And that has implications for the future as well... Anyway, all good otherwise.

Re: Chat about anything else!
Updates tonight and over the weekend. All being well next week will be easier than this (out of the house for 12-13 hours every day) from a work point of view meaning I get more time instead of work/eat/bed cycle.

Re: Chat about anything else!
We're coming up to 12 years (in 3 weeks time) since we started this journey (on another forum). We survived forum outages, an eventual forum change and numerous real life disasters and calamities along the way. Heck, that's life, you dust off and pick up, go again. I'm proud of the players we have and the game world we've created and don't plan on an end date. So long as players want to play I will run the game.
One thing I did think about was tarting up the old place and having a prune. Lots of people joined up then never joined in, we have the Dunecat forum at the bottom which was a non starter and the logo doesn't represent the fact we have 1 British player (and a GM) and three across the pond players, so I think an update is in order. the game is no longer set in Britain. We've been all over the place and back, so something without the Union flag is preferred. I'm not a graphic designer or fancy with fonts or anything so cooked something up in a minute or so. Nothing fancy. Anyway, if anyone has any thoughts on the front end of the site and the blurb we'll see about dusting this place off.
Other than that, thanks for being so active and putting up with my unwanted absences! I feel like I've turned a corner with the house. Not out of the woods, just more prepared for winter. I hope. Still getting dumped with a £1000 bill for something unexpected every month though. That's houses I guess.
The proposed logo (yes it's boring and plain. If you have any other ideas or keep the current one, I'm open to suggestions. Also open to suggestions for the logo headings and anything else.):
Once things are changed up, I won't be messing around with them again. I just think it's been a while since the place was tidied and it could do with a spring clean.

Re: Chat about anything else!
Oh and Dave (E) you (Frostbite) first encountered Eurotrash on November 4th 2009 along with Stormwarden. I'm just reading up on the first mission to Battersea power station in search of kidnapped superheroes. You met Nowhere Man that day too, as well as the short lived villain Vitesse(we haven't seen him since. Maybe just as well as he sounded like a Frenchman from Monty Python and stank of onions..)
I think you guys made short work of him. I'll keep reading! Might dredge up a few surprises from Frostbite's past...

Sometimes vanilla is the right choice. It's big, it's bold and it tells what it needs to tell.
I'm retiring in 9 to 11 years. Hopefully this game will still be going strong then.

Another one. Not gonna spend a lot of time on this (too much to do!) Once everyone has had a say I'll go with whatever the preferred is (or the first plain white one as default)

Wow, 12 years we have seen a lot of change in that time. I've been in Devon the whole of that time in my Ministry and work amazing.
Let's hope for the next 12 years to see Dave into his retirement ;-)
I like the cleaner leaner first version I've got here, I think given the international scope of players coming on board it's less territorial and I just like the cleaner look with the old school writing logo etc.
Glad things are coming together for your Paul, Homeownership - never easy, but hey the alternatives aren't so great either.
Every Blessing mate

Re: Chat about anything else!
I have to laugh.
This week I thought I was getting on top of things. Well, the garage is still leaking and I need to have it not rain so I can *try* to sort it out. Again. It's not too bad, just build up of water on the garage door running down and seeping under the door. Not like before with blocked drains and the garage turning into a swimming pool anyway. Then I bought a new fridge freezer (an American style one you can hide a dead body in) and needed to get the doors off to get it in. Also needed to wire in a new socket and managed to trip the house in the process. Twice. Anyway, that was done today and works fine. So I had to get the bits required to plumb the fridge freezer in (for the water/ice) and managed to do so only for them not to work out of the box and the garage filled with water again.
At this point I'm considering turning it into a swimming pool.
Finally *fingers crossed* I have the plumbing sorted out, the electrics are fine and it's tidying up now and carpentry (for shelves/storage) which I can sort of do in my sleep (I've had that much practise). Still to sort the leaky (new!) garage door (the garage door is fine, the base it sits on slopes into the garage thanks to the previous owners bodging and not doing a good job of it). Kind of like undoing the other lots stuff and once that's done something else pops up. Like whack a mole.
Anyway, off out for a couple of hours and will update when I return! Cheers, Paul/Frank Spencer

Mine is more like Mouse Hunt, save the house falls down and wasn't worth anything anyway
I'll get there. Maybe.
Just checked the newly plumbed in Fridge. I hope it starts cooling down at some point. It's been on several hours and the Fridge section has actually gone up 1 degree c. I'm reasonably sure it's not supposed to do that.

Oh, Paul, I guess it's just as well you know how to do these things it's just the doing of them and doing them in the time and with the other finite resources you've got right now. Hope that pesky garage gets sorted. I can see how getting on top of that is a priority. So, as always, no worries here my friend.

Re: Chat about anything else!
Looks like I got scammed on the Fridge. Seller vanished, fridge warms up instead of cooling down!
Might be able to fix it by changing out one of the PCBs, it's not rocket science but figuring out which one is iffy might be. Doing lots of research on websites/youtube about fixing Samsung fridges. Might be able to revive the wretched thing and get some use out of it.
As for the garage, I have another couple of ideas but as usual time/money are the enemies!
Hope you guys are well, I'll get a few updates done before sack time. Up at 4am to have another day of fun tomorrow

You'll have seen the new forum logo. It's a bit fussy but I wanted a bit of colour in the place - that said if anyone objects or comes up with a better logo (that took me nearly 2 minutes in word so I spent ages on it...) that everyone can agree on we'll try it. Will also be changing the mini logos for the headers as well.
From these to something else. Again, suggestions, ideas, shouts of "KEEP IT AS IT IS/WAS!" and so on sent to the usual place. Whatever that is

Apologies for the unintended absence! Had my covid booster jab on Wednesday and it has been horrendous since then. It's like having an instant dose of flu plus migraines, plus a fair few other symptoms rolled into one. Had no problem with the first two jabs (Astra Zenica) but the Pfizer one floored me. Stupidly enough I thought I could ride it out with cold remedy tablets and such and went to work which was a mistake.
Anyway, sleep pattern almost normal (ish) now but my shoulder is still stiff (yesterday I couldn't turn my head!) and still have cold/flu symptoms but I can live with those. I'll see what I can get done before I have to go out in an hour but expect more over the weekend.
I know the virus is a horrible thing and all, but the 'cure' (or at least preventative) isn't exactly a walk in the park either.

Dang! Sorry to hear that. Maybe switching vaccines was the reason for it all? Haven't gone for the booster yet, waiting until I am told I have too. Also have to remember to call my doctor and get my flu shot next week or the week after. Take care!
