Life & Tradition
Waitress Spots Woman Trapped in Burning Car—Rushes to Pull Her Out, Saves Her Life
By EMG Inspired Staff

A waitress in Georgia has been hailed a hero after she saved a woman who was trapped inside a burning car on the roadside.

On Thursday, June 10, Keelyn Harper, 22, an employee of Rooster’s Drive Inn, was finishing her shift at around 9:30 p.m.

She was heading home to her 14-month-old baby when, by chance, she decided to take County Highway 213 home, rather than the shorter route she usually takes.

On her way, she came across a car that was on fire on the roadside. There was a woman trapped inside.

“From far away it looked like someone had thrown something out in the bushes that caught on fire,” Harper told FOX News. “I didn’t know it was a car until I stopped.”

She pulled over and rushed over to the car and, after assessing the situation, she knew she had to do something—and fast. She quickly called 911 and then sprang into action.

“By the time I got to the car, the front of the car was already in flames and smoke had begun seeping through the vents into the car,” she said.

The airbags had blown, filling the front of the car, making it difficult for Harper to see the car’s occupant.

After struggling with the inflated airbags, pulling them back, she found the driver, a woman, who was identified as Ashley Strawn.

Strawn was in poor condition; her head was bleeding profusely, while her leg was gashed with exposed bone.

Fearing that the woman would die, Harper pulled her out and to safety and stayed with her until responders arrived.

“It was just the instinct, you know maybe a motherly instinct or maybe just the human instinct to help,” she said.

Strawn, who’s still recovering in the hospital, having suffered a broken leg, ribs, nose, and vertebrae, as well as facial wounds, did manage to send a message to her rescuer.

“Thank you for saving my life,” said Strawn in a video clip, adding that she was eager to meet Harper.

Friends and family of the victim praised Harper, calling her their hero for saving the life of their loved one.

“She would have burned to death if it had not been for Keelyn,” said Kenny Anderson, Harper’s boss. “She is a true hero.”

from a cartoon group I'm in:

Well
I've squeezed all I could
out of this lemon ;-)

Under Dog
an American Saturday morning animated television series
that ran from October 3, 1964, to March 4, 1967
starting on the NBC network until 1966, with the rest of the run on CBS,
under the primary sponsorship of General Mills, for a run of 62 episodes.
It is one of the early Saturday morning cartoons.
The show continued in syndication until 1973.

Underdog, Shoeshine Boy's heroic alter ego,
appears whenever love interest Sweet Polly Purebred is being victimized
by such villains as Simon Bar Sinister or Riff Raff.
Underdog nearly always speaks in rhyming couplets,
as in "There's no need to fear, Underdog is here!"
His voice was supplied by Wally Cox.

Underdog T.V.Theme Song
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here.

When criminals in this world appear,
And break the laws that they should fear,
And frighten all who see or hear,
The cry goes up both far and near for
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog.

Speed of lightning, roar of thunder,
Fighting all who rob or plunder
Underdog, Underdog, Underdog.

When in this world the headlines read
Of those whose hearts are filled with greed
And rob and steal from those in need.
To right this wrong with blinding speed goes
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog.

Speed of lightning, roar of thunder,
Fighting all who rob or plunder
Underdog, Underdog, Underdog.

(*There were two versions of the chorus,
"Roar of thunder" and "Power of thunder".

City of Heroes, the superhero MMORPG that went belly up about ten years ago is on a number of private servers. The above video explains how to join the server I play on. Not sure if you can do it from your side of the Pond or need one of those VPN services to link in from America to get it.

Let me know if any of you join. We could team-up! Basketball

Hey Paul, Dave, thanks for the new reply I saw them yesterday but couldn't give it the attention it deserved and today has gone quick and I'm away overnight tonight. So probably in all honesty not going to get to reply till tomorrow. I know unusual for me, but thought I'd say I'd seen the latest and I will be on it tomorrow now, I think.

Glad things are coming together for you Paul, likewise part of my business is for a similar reason ;-)

Thanks for your patience

Yesterdays 'Guaranteed to update, promise!' turned out to be 'run out of time. Again.' The reason this time is because I ventured to the lockup where a lot of my stuff/junk gathered over the years is stashed.

Anyway, a hundred mile round trip, a lot of chopping with a knife and boxes were popped open, books were sorted and shelves filled.

Chat about anything else! - Page 6 IMG-20210902-145256

Top shelf mostly board games. Bought a few of them lately to coax my youngest son from video games. Mixed success so far. It's a long term plan  Rolling Eyes I played a lot of Blood Bowl back in the day. 1e was more like a wargame, 2e wasn't great but 3e was where things really kicked off. Got that in it's own box with extras and bits/league docs.

'Showering Products' the RPG? No, this is a folder containing a fair few old campaign notes and character sheets, adventures etc. I was prolific at school and a short time after with writing my own games but sadly I can't find them (some would be forty years old by now so no surprise) as they wouldn't have survived a dozen house moves.

Chat about anything else! - Page 6 1

I have quite a few Mutants and Masterminds core books (and multiples of the stuff I use a lot as I tend to use them to death. Like literally, I've had to bin stuff because it was used to extinction. Marvel Superheroes 1e for instance, has not survived the ages, and several DC Heroes, D&D Rules Cyclopedia and BECMI books were all sacrificed over time to gaming) but don't really love the game.

No idea why I have so many D&D books. Haven't played it for decades and though I wanted to go back to it (first love and all that) it needs face to face play and lots of time, something difficult/impossible these days

I guess this is half, or a third, or what's in the lockup, though not all will be RPG books. There's loads of crap I need to sell/bin as well. Anyway, I'll see what I can update today - no lockup runs planned (or unplanned as this was).

Seriously that is like an Aladdin's cave of stuff from RPG time that civilisation forgot, except us grognards. Wow, mate if nothing else your house will be warm with all that lining the walls ;-). Anyway glad you are getting on top of things, I saw the photos of you and power tools, glad you came out with all the same limbs still attached.

Anyway, I've just got back myself, so no worries as to updates. Things are going to get busier for me from now to Christmas, more so as we get closer. So as always there will be days when I can post super fast and others when I might be absent for a bit. But, God willing I'm still here.

It's Labor Day weekend here. Heading down to Sarasota, FL after work today so won't be back on until Tuesday. Going down to be with family because my mom is dying. She is mostly asleep/unconscious and doesn't want to see us since she can't see well, hear well or talk well. She also doesn't want a memorial service but we kids are getting together for a remember mom dinner. She has Cerebellar Ataxia if you are wondering.

So ... have a great weekend folks. I'm looking forwards to a 700+ mile trip down to Florida during heavy holiday traffic season. Razz
Google says it will only be 11 hours one way. Lucky me!

Well, I returned from Sarasota about 45 minutes ago. Found a message on the answering machine from my brother, Mike, telling me mom died about 9:45 am this morning. I had left Sarasota about 7:15 am so I could go to work tomorrow, so about 2.5 hours after I had left. Took me just about 12 hours and 15 minutes to get back home, stopped twice for lunch and dinner.

I got to say good-bye to her yesterday so that helps emotionally. I may be posting a lot or I may be posting very little for awhile. It kind of depends on how I feel and coping; posting might help with the process.

No funeral, no memorial service. Mom didn't want those. She wants to be cremated and her ashes mixed in with JT's, her second husband. Later, to have their ashes scattered in the Pacific Ocean. JT was in WW2, serving aboard the USS Char, submarine service in the Pacific. Still have my dad and his second wife, my step-mom, but she isn't doing well either. Mom was 85.

Sorry to hear about that David but she's had a long life and her family around her, remembered and laid to rest as per her wishes. The drive sounds a complete grueller but well worth it and I'm sure you'll treasure the memories of your mum. RIP.

I've had a few days away with the other half at her country retreat (read: second home just about big enough to swing a cat in but no larger) and no chance to post so apologies. Thought I'd have some quiet 'me' time but alas was not to be.

Today I'm self levelling a garage floor which like last weeks 'cut a drain in the driveway' is a learning curve. That last job went without a hitch, this one should be easier but don't be surprised if I post next from the collapsed ruins of my house in the crater that was my neighbourhood. Frank Spencer has nothing on me. (That reference I'm sure Dave E will remember but for anyone else Michael Crawford played a hapless guy who screwed up everything he was ever involved in despite his best intentions with hilarious/cringe inducing consequences. Very modern day 'Harold Lloyd' albeit it was made in the 70s I think as 'Some Mothers Do 'Ave em', probably available on Youtube.)

I'm off all this week for house works/girlfriend 'holiday' but stay-cation for the most part as foreign holidays are a joke with the 'ok to go, oops, now you need to get back in 24 hours or self isolate for 10 days' that the UK Government keep flip flopping with. Interesting times in which we live.

So, still here, need to update (want to update!) but it may be towards the latter part of the week. Right now I have to get in the shower, pick building supplies up then get mucky again Shocked

Dave, I will only echo Paul's words, here and say that I am glad that despite the grind to get there, the timing of it all seems very providential to me. I hope that you can process the grief, which hits us all in waves and no one can predict why, what, how or when in a way that makes coming to terms with your loss. My own mum is 86 and sleeping lots these days. I try to call most days but it's getting harder to 'talk' to her by phone.

Anyway, thanks for the update. If I can 'help' then please feel free to reach out, happy to chat.

Paul hope the house levelling - not Frank Spence style ("Oh Frank!" "Ummm Betty!") goes well. Make sure you retain all your limbs Very Happy

https://cityofheroesrebirth.com/public/

I have mentioned this before but City of Heroes, the MMORPG game that ended over a decade ago is back on private servers and is free. I'm spending a lot of free time on the game and hope some of you might be interested in joining the game too. Tell your friends!

Link above is to the server's website. There are actually a number of different private servers that have modified the game a bit. This is the one I am currently on and enjoying. They added in a new character class called the Guardian class. It is a combination of up close fighter and ranged fighter. In other words, a Jack of All Trades, master of none.

Got 80+ characters on there, including two villains. Yes, you can play a villain in this game. They got their own city to adventure in. And you can, after hitting level 20, do special missions that let you move from villain to vigilante so you can cross over somewhat in the heroes' city.

I have two superhero groups if you want to join them.

First is, The Society of Patriotic Heroes. Requirement: be named and/or dressed as a patriotic hero. Doesn't matter which country you are Patriotic to. So British Bulldog or Mother Russia, for example, would qualify. The Americommando is the leader of the SPH. Yeah, I went and looked up patriotic heroes of the Golden Age and made characters based off the name or costumes of those heroes.

Second is, The Legion of Super-Heroes. Yes, THAT LSH! Have a character who is based off the LSH, the Legion of Substitute Heroes, their foes or reservists. Currently, we have Ultra Boy, Val Armorr [original Karate Kid's real name], Radiation Roy [a Legion foe] and Mon-El, who is the leader of this LSH.

Even if it is just for costume designs, you may want to look it over. About half of my characters are not in a supergroup yet. So if you want to form another supergroup that has some kind of theme to it, like all mutants or all natural origin types, we can do that as well.

Hope we can play sometime if you are interested. Lots of players are from the old days and have gotten their kids to play with them now that they are old enough. So a really family friendly game - if superhero violence can be considered family friendly.

And there are multiple story arcs with well thought out foes. Personally, I hate the Vahzilocks because they make zombies who vomit up acid blood for continual damage and have exploding ones as well. Those are Science origin villains. The Circle of Thorns are a magic origin villains. They got these really long and twisty caves you have to go into to complete whatever mission you are on. Hate those caves.

There are five origins available for selection:

Origin Magic
You receive your powers from a magical source. These abilities might come from a mystical artifact bestowed upon you, the mastery of numerous magical spells, or pacts made with powerful dimensional entities. This origin will give you access to Apprentice Charm. This item has a very short range and deals minor energy damage, as well as lowering their resistance to further damage.

Origin Mutation
You were born with abilities which set you apart from the rest of humankind. Your powers manifested at birth, puberty, or possibly adulthood. Mutants are often viewed with awe and fear by those who don't understand them. This origin will give you access to Mutagen. This item has a very short range and deals minor energy damage, as well as lowering the damage the affected target deals out.

Origin Natural
You aren't 'super' at all; your amazing talents come from intense training and innate abilities. You might have been driven to physical excellence by some all-encompassing desire for perfection or revenge, or perhaps you are not human at all, and possess powers natural to your race. With your natural origin you have to rely on your cunning and skill. This origin will give you access to Throwing Knives. This attack has a very short range and deals minor lethal damage, as well as inflicting additional damage over time.

Origin Science
You received your powers either through purposeful scientific inquiry or some accident gone awry. You have since learned to harness your new-found abilities, becoming a powerful force in the world. This origin will give you access to Tranq Dart. This item has a very short range and deals minor lethal and toxic damage. In addition there is a small chance you can put the target to sleep with the dart, but they will wake up the next time they are damaged or healed.

Origin Technology
You derive your powers from technological devices, from suits of high-tech body armor to powerful energy weapons. Few have been able to duplicate the amazing technology which lies behind your gadgets. You need not be a brilliant inventor; you may have acquired these items from another source. This origin will give you access to Taser Dart. This attack has a very short range and does minor energy damage. In addition it has a small chance to hold your opponent for a brief moment.

The Natural Origin foes early on are the 5th Column and the Council. These are holdover Super-Nazis leftover from WW2 who split into two groups. For some reason, this tends to be my favorite origin type. Laughing

Choosing Alignment

Select an Alignment
The choice of alignment is an important decision for your character. Once made, you will be unable to change it until level 20.

All players have the ability to choose Freedom, which allows you to create Heroes and Villains. Only those who also have purchased Going Rogue will be able to choose Praetorians.

Will you confront super villains, aliens, madmen, criminals, and other fearsome foes in Paragon City? Will you take on the responsibility of protecting the sprawling metropolis and its citizens from the clutches of evil?

Will you choose to take part in the fight for survival of the fittest on the Rogue Isles? Will you commit heists, kidnappings, and infiltrations on your way to fulfill your destiny as a legendary arch-criminal?

Or will you take part in the civil war on Praetoria, fighting for or against Emperor Cole's tyrannical regime? The choice is yours.

Selecting an Archetype

Select an Archetype
Your archetype determines the nature of your powers, granting you access to specific primary and secondary power sets. It is also the second most important choice you will make in your character creation. Each archetype has its own unique powers, abilities, and pros and cons; choose wisely as this choice is permanent. When you first begin play, Free & Premium players have eight archetypes to select from. You can unlock other archetypes via the Paragon Market or via the Paragon Rewards Program. VIP Players have access to ten archetypes to begin with and can unlock 4 additional ones through gameplay or via the Paragon Market.

Make sure to select an archetype and power sets that harmonize well with your personal play style.
As of Issue 21, any archetype can start the game as a Hero or a Villain with the exception of the Epic Archetypes. Peacebringers and Warshades must begin as Heroes whilst Arachnos Soldiers and Widows must begin as Villains.

Blaster
The blaster is an offensive juggernaut. This hero can deal a ton of damage from a distance. But the blaster must be careful, because he's somewhat fragile compared to other heroes. The blaster can't stand toe to toe with most opponents at melee for long. His best defense is a great offense!

Controller
The controller is at the same time the weakest and yet the most powerful of the archetypes. The controller has few offensive attacks and possesses the fewest hit points. But the controller has access to a range of powers that no one else does. Armed with these powers, a controller can affect the behavior of villains, from freezing them in place, to putting them to sleep, to routing them away. Armed with such abilities, the controller is the backbone for any super group, but the controller depends upon his teammates for protection.

Defender
The defender tends to help his allies, and attack his foes, from a distance. The defender excels at powers that assist friends, but can also hinder his enemies. The defender is able to attack at quite a range, however, the defender is not built for hand to hand. He might be able to dodge a few attacks, but the defender won't last for long.

Scrapper
The scrapper is a fierce melee combatant. In hand to hand, no other hero can compare. But the scrapper is not as resilient as the tanker, and might find himself in a little trouble if he heedlessly wades into combat. The scrapper's aptitude for melee is countered by a total lack of distance attacks. Scrappers possess critical strike capability. Their melee attacks have a chance to sometimes do double damage.

Tanker
The tanker can take it and dish it out all at once. The tanker primarily can absorb vast amounts of damage, and hold his own in a fist fight. But the tanker lacks any long range punch. The tanker would prefer just to charge straight ahead anyway.

Peacebringer (Epic)
Peacebringers are formed from the fusion of an alien energy being called a Kheldian and a willing host. While peacebringers take more damage from most attacks, they make up for this weakness with solid hit points, a good variety of energy attack powers and strong defensive powers, inherent flight, and eventually even gain access to two shape-shift forms. Peacebringers become stronger when teamed with non-Kheldian heroes, gaining bonuses to their own powers based on the archetypes of their teammates.

Warshade (Epic)
Warshades are former Nictus who have left that dark path behind and reformed, joining with a willing host. While warshades take more damage from most attacks, they make up for this weakness with solid hit points, a good variety of dark energy attack powers and strong defensive powers, inherent teleport, and eventually even gain access to two shape-shift forms. Warshades become stronger when teamed with non-Kheldian heroes, gaining bonuses to their own powers based on the archetypes of their team mates.

Brute
Brutes live to fight, and as a brute, you will revel in hand-to-hand combat. With strong offensive powers designed to inflict pain and impressive defenses to take it, you're the best there is in a straight melee fight. Protracted battles only make you mad, and the madder you get, the more damaging your attacks become. You do lack ranged attacks, which could leave you vulnerable to hit and run tactics without some allies to cover you.

Corruptor
Corruptors twist the forces of the universe to do their bidding. As a corruptor, you might strike your foes down with blasts of fire, entomb them in ice, infect them with radiation, or curse them with pure darkness. As your foes are weakened, your Scourge ability kicks in, increasing your damage to an enemy as their hit points drop. You can even impart a portion of your twisted power to your allies to protect them from harm, heal them, or increase the damage they deal. This wide array of abilities comes at a price. Your defenses aren't strong, and you can quickly attract the ire of your enemies if you aren't careful.

Dominator
As a dominator, you control a devastating combination of control and assault powers. A dominator can freeze foes in place, render them unconscious, or cause them to flee in terror. Dominators can also smite their foes with a selection of single-target melee and ranged attacks, albeit not with the same power as a corruptor. However, each time a dominator attacks, he comes closer to unleashing his true sadistic power of Domination. With so much emphasis on diverse offensive powers, dominators lack in defenses and work best with teammates who can provide protection.

Mastermind
As a mastermind, you excel at using others to do your dirty work. Perhaps you build killer robots, command deadly ninja, order hardened soldiers, or summon the undead to do your bidding. Whatever your choice, you have an army of minions at your beck and call. You can summon them when needed, order them to work your will, and even use your powers to enhance them or weaken your foe. The mastermind is a difficult class to play, often demanding constant attention to control your minions and stave off the retribution of your enemies.

Stalker
Skill can divert clumsy raw power, and precisely applied force can solve many problems. As a stalker, this is the core of your specialty. You do your best work when attacking from ambush, and can even hide in plain sight to escape foes. Deadly attacks and good defenses make you a dangerous combatant and assassin, but you can be overwhelmed if you're not careful.

Arachnos Widow (Epic)
Characters with Arachnos Widow training begin their careers as Blood Widows. Blood Widow characters begin with modest melee, ranges, and buff skills. Beginning at level 24, they may choose to switch to the "Fortunata" path or remain on the "Widow" path and become "Night Widows." Night Widows gain considerably stronger melee capabilities and only have modest ranged abilities, while those who go with the Fortunata path learn stronger ranged attack abilities and control abilities.

Arachnos Soldier (Epic)
Characters with Arachnos Soldier training begin their careers as Wolf Spiders. Wolf Spider characters have a strong mix of melee and ranged attacks and strong protective powers available via their power armor. Beginning at level 24, the player has to choose whether he will progress down the "Crab Spider" or "Bane Spider" path. Crab Spiders gain access to the "backpack" and the powerful claw/cone attacks is provides, while the Bane Spider track provides stealth and a stronger focus on melee.

Hope the above wet's your appetite for the game. Let me know! bounce

Thanks for this Dave, I saw this many years ago and thought then what a great looking idea. But my computer and internet wouldn't have supported it, and then it went off the grid. I saw your last post about this and took a look at it and was wondering if my rig now would cope with it. But even if it could, to be honest life is pretty hectic right now, sometimes I'm even struggling to post in anything like a decent time. I've not played a game online or off for a few years now, I can't see that changing anytime soon. But should I get some time, I will bear it in mind and take a look. Like most games to get the good stuff means spending some time in the game and if anything I'm a totally casual user these days. Still never say never.

It's actually a game where you can spend as little as five minutes on it or fifteen hours. It depends on your time and motivation. Granted, going through one of the tutorials and paying attention when doing it the first will take you about 15 to 30 minutes. Or you can get it done in 5 if you know it already and just want to zip through it.

You can spend hours just designing your costume just right or hit the randomize button a few times and go with that or go with pre-selected outfits and just change the two colors used. Heck, there are over 35 different devices one can use to hook their cape onto their costume! pirat

Later on in the game, you get access to more costume pieces and you can do a couple of free costume re-designs in game.

if you just want to relieve a little stress, you can spend a few minutes wandering the streets and beating up all the crooks who are mugging people left and right. Very Happy

If you want to be immersed in the story, certain contacts give you story arcs to your missions you can read as you play and this will take time. There's even a way to play Hero missions you didn't do and then out leveled and at the level of the missions so you get xp for them.

You want to play solo you can do so easily unless you take a support class character and then you will be struggling to complete some missions that everyone else will breeze through. You want to join up with a random group of folks, just announce you are looking for a group to join. You want to only play with your super-group members, you set up days and time together to play.

And since this is a private server pretty much everyone is really nice and helpful. Bad actors are banished from the server. It is a relatively small group of players on it. Maybe less than a 1000 worldwide.

As soon as I remember how to take a screen shot for the game, maybe I will make a British Bulldog for everyone's perusal. affraid pig alien

Okay, wasn't able to find a pic of British Bulldog here after a whole three minutes of looking so I came up with how I think he looks using COH's graphics. I'm sure I got a few details wrong. geek
