The Ultrahumans! Issue #1 Starring Miss Victory and Lionheart! "White House Down..."

Lionheart stood in the ashes of the tent. The powerful explosions - unwitting members of Army staff and soldiers, including armoured super soldiers assigned to the US Secret Service had all been 'affected' - were enough to tear through unprotected flesh and machines, carving great chunks of earth and debris then throwing them high in the sky.

Lionheart could survive the explosion of a thermonuclear device. Not just any, but THE thermonuclear device, the biggest mankind had ever created. He'd effectively done it, when Silver Sentinel had been injured. Now he stood in ash, unharmed but distraught. He'd interposed himself between the blast and the General and ... well, the blast had curled around him. The General was part of the ash he stood in, burning rubble and debris.

He looked about. The White House itself was burning. There were moans, cries for help but very few people actually alive.

Something had caused certain people amongst the soldiers and support staff to explode like super grenades. Now the force designed to rescue the President, who was held hostage somewhere inside her own White House, was in tatters. Ruined. Killed.

And Lionheart had survived. The man from the future rose from a crouch. His force field was a bio electric aura around an inch from his skin, enough to encapsulate his costume and that was about it. Shielding the General had occurred to a man who thought and acted in fractions of nano seconds. There were too many explosions though, and hundreds of service personnel had died.

He ignored the fire as he crunched through the ash and stood to look upon the White House. It was burning, fire coming from the various windows. Somewhere in there was a group of metahumans who had murdered Secret Service agents and national guard/army and taken the President hostage.

"Lionheart?" asked Kosmic Fire.

She'd been burning and the fire - when it washed over her - had been absorbed as much as she was able, and it hadn't been enough to save anyone. "Are you alright? they... they're... they're all dead." she said quietly, looking around at black ash spread about from the various points of explosion.

"What do we do? Where are the others?" she asked.

The alarms blared and Man of Bronze shouted "All non fliers, grab a hand of a flier! We need evac, NOW!" as the Ultrahumans jet plummeted at maximum speed towards the active volcano!

Slammed to the front of the craft which pointed nose down, Miss Victory gulped down a vita pill and felt her body surge with power! The others in the craft - Water and Tiger Lilly, siblings and inseparable superhumans, Man of Bronze, arrogant Billionaire and paragon with powerful Earth controlling gauntlets, Imperious Rex, statue of Caesar brought to life with vast superhuman strength and durability, Captain Star, able to shape psionic force into any object he could imagine and Miss Victory herself all faced imminent death!

The controls were unresponsive, manual or computer controlled and there were only seconds until the craft full of 'B list' Ultrahumans smashed into the volcano at top speed! The team was already in mourning after a number of members had been caught in the stray blast caused by the wound to Silver Sentinel.

Now this? What could they do to escape certain death?

Miss Victory

"I can jump," Miss Victory yells, "who can't fly?"

ooc: She is assuming Man of Bronze can't fly but not sure about the others. So she is prepared to grab him and one other to leap out with.

Lionheart was angry and felt that they'd walked into a trap. So far it seemed their advisory's had the upper hand, but what could this latest move involve unless it was a fancy way to cover their escape and get out whilst everyone saw a burning building.

"We've been played, but the President is still in trouble, they might be using this to cover their escape. But we'd best go careful, this was meant to incinerate everyone, they might not take account of us surviving. In any case, they'll have contingencies. Meet me at the White House, I'll scout around real quick and be right back."

And with that Lionheart stepped it up a bit going over the whole sight, helping those he could and checking to see if there were any clues to be had outside before they attempted to breach the wall of flame and look inside.

OOC: OK so going to see if we can get any help or clues or ideas from around. Then get Kosmic to absorb flame and try and step in to see if we can find out what is going on in the White House - looking for the culprits etc.

MISS VICTORY

Water Lilly shouted "RELAX EVERYONE!"

Captain Star said "Yeah, the ship ain't goin nowhere. Hold on." He glanced about. "No really, hold on to something."

He slapped a hand on the floor and the ship STOPPED. The engines roared in protest and got louder and louder as Captain Star shouted "Is there a manual emergency stop for the engines? He reached out with another hand and an 'energy fist' about the size of a trashcan formed then punched through the previously locked rear hatch. It seemed the ship had been made to 'fight' against the inhabitants. The open air beckoned and the hand rushed out, feeling about on the outside.

"Better get out of here!" shouted Captain Star.

Miss Victory looked about. Man of Bronze summoned a clod of earth and fell/jumped onto it and it swooped away. Water Lilly created a cloud from thin air and her and Tiger Lilly leaped onto it. They exited the craft. Imperious Rex was droning on about one of Julius Caesars speeches and simply leapt out of the hatch, uncaring of the fall of about a mile or so to the Volcano below.

"Looks like everyone made their way out!" shouted Captain Star. He formed a sphere around himself and shouted "JUMP!"

Miss Victory jumped ... and on the way down glanced up at the craft.

It exploded!

As debris rained down and fire and smoke spiralled in all directions it cleared enough to see a sphere floating in the middle of the debris. Captain Star then moved his sphere to ground level and waited for the others to gather near him. The Volcano was active and rumbling!

"Time to go." muttered Man of Bronze.

"Step aboard." said Captain Star and the near see through sphere opened up to admit others, expanding to be large enough for everyone to sit in and with benches too.

"Why didn't we travel this way from the Space station?" asked Man of Bronze with a scowl.

"One you didn't ask and two, we know about a threat that we are now aware of." explained Captain Star. He raised the sphere up telekinetically and spoke up. "Hold onto something. No really." and the sphere shot uppppp... and off to the North and the East.

"Well?" asked the orange clad figure.

"They survived. they know someone tampered with the craft." came a reply from someone, also clad in orange.

"The Space Station?"

"I'm working on it. Even my powers have a range limit."

"We can teleport you onto the station."

"Then they'd know about it. Patience. When I trigger the manoeuvring jets they musn't know about it."

"What about the survivors? Who do we have that can intercept them?"

"They are on their way."

"Can't we go any faster?" asked Man of Bronze.

Captain Star nodded "Yes, but then the sonic boom would cause environmental damage."

Tiger Lilly slumped against the sides. "You know we have to get to the White House, right? That the others are waiting for us?"

"We are over South America. At some point they will scramble jets to intercept us. We need to behave, in other words. The world is watching." said Captain Star. Imperious Rex continued to drone on about Roman times in the corner.

"Can someone shut him up?" asked Man of Bronze.

"What's that?" asked Tiger Lilly as a dot in the sky started to close in - heading towards them fast!

Miss Victory had a bad feeling about this...

MISS VICTORY


"Land us," Miss Victory demanded. "I'm no good in an air battle. Get us to the ground where I can at least use rocks and trees to throw at whoever that is!"

LIONHEART

Lionheart sped about at speed, throwing up black dust and ash in his wake.

The police, army, their vehicles, support tents... the explosions had been simultaneous and decisive. Looking at the White House and around, Lionheart tried to piece together what had happened.

1) No device was used here, there are no fragments of devices, only remains of people.
2-3) The vehicles were caught up in the explosions of the people and they were powerful enough to punch through armour

Knowing what he knew, Lionheart considered what he'd found.

1) The villain must have had line of sight or some mental ability to 'see' their targets
2-3) The power used seems quite specific. Pick a target, 'set' them to explode at a certain time then ignite them. Knowing that, the Ultrahumans database may be able to narrow down the perpetrator.

"Lionheart to Duplex. Here's what I know..." said Lionheart, standing and glancing about with the communicator badge pressed.

"Duplex... here... I don't know what to say Lionheart. I'm glad you're alright but... this... is awful..." said the man in the satellite orbiting the Earth.

"Running it through the database. We have... three matches. One is a sorcerer, location unknown. Chinese in Orgin the translation is 'Deadly Dragon'. Another is a villain called 'Exploding Eddie', small time crook, able to set something - anything - to explode with a touch. The third is 'Chain Reaction' who was until recently a villain in the supermax prison, level 6 of that facility." said Duplex.

Level 6. Enough to give Lionheart a run for his money. Level 7 and 8 were beyond Lionhearts abilities.

Duplex continued "Edward Moretti. Former gangster gained the ability to combust anything by 'seeing' a target either physically or mentally. Very dangerous. He can change the body to convert into a combination of molecules similar to 'Aziroazide azide' which is extremely volatie and this more so. His power is more effective on living targets and he made a living as an assassin. Collateral damage means nothing to him. Three years ago he killed a target in a shopping mall which also took out over one hundred people and injured hundreds more. I think he's your man. Very, very effective against large mobs and things like armies. The US Army has tried to weaponize his power..."

"Known associates. Not many... but one of them was an alien rocketed from his home planet as an infant and came into our dimension via a space anomaly. Incredibly fast and strong. His name is in Russian, translates to ul'tra chelovek or 'Ultra'. Level 7 of the Supermax."

Lionheart looked at the White House.

Kosmic Fire was carefully moving about, placing her hands in the flame which snuffed out instantly every time. The White House continued to burn but she'd have to get closer in order to put those out.

Speeding over to Kosmic Fire, Lionheart filled her in then said to her. "We're going to have our work cut out for us if these are but two of the crew. With the others we might be able to pull this off. Talking of which where are the others, they should be here by now surely?"

Taking that moment to contact Duplex [OOC: and get the skinny on what is going on] Lionheart then took note.

"We'll it looks like things have got worse. We're on our own for now. Let's get in, either they have an escape plan or they are laying up a trap. Let's go cautiously."

Lionheart was struggling to make sense of all this. Advent had a tenticle like reach, but was this them after all? Had some other plan simultaneously been broached as there's was? Maybe their incursion had caused people like Nexus to step up their goals. One thing was for certain things were in a terrible mess, and one had to wonder how they were going to look when all the dust was settled.

OOC: OK so let's go exploring and trying not to bring the house down on ourselves.

"Water Lilly, Myself and Man of Bronze should take the guy on initially with the aim of getting down to ground level where you three can ground pound." said Captain Star.

"That's a poor tactic. We don't know if the enemy can attack from a distance yet." said Man of Bronze.

"Well, you need a tactic because that 'guy' will be here in seconds!" said Water Lilly

LIONHEART

Duplex responded. "Lionheart the others seemed to have had a problem. We are tracking their last known location. I think we've been ha... skrzzzzzzzzzz"

The man on the Satellite orbiting the Earth was cut off and Lionheart feared the worst. The attack on the White House was just one part of a concerted effort to defeat, demoralise and discredit the Ultrahumans. By taking the most powerful member and those other senior/most powerful members out with a rescue mission to the Sun, the enemy - and Lionheart suspected Advent - was systematically removing pieces from the board.

Without a 'win' the Ultrahumans would soon see a turn in public opinion. Lionheart looked around at the devastation where hundreds of people had died. Distant sirens were ringing out but there wasn't really anything to save. This wasn't a win - Lionheart was now on damage control.

Kosmic Fire seemed to be in shock, gaping around and occasionally flitting to a fire to plunge her hand in and snuff it out. "All this... who?" she muttered.

Moving into the ruins that were the worlds most famous home of office Lionheart looked about. There were burned out ruins inside as well as dark smears that must have been valiant secret service agents holding off attackers as best they could without success.

Further in and Lionheart detected no danger on this floor, nor could he detect survivors. Finding stairs he saw bullet holes all over the walls as well as flattened bullets. Crouching to pick one up amongst the thousands that lay about, he examined it.

He couldn't glean much from the bullets but knew they were no match for the person or people they'd been used against.

Danger Sense warns him of danger and states that it is coming from three individuals at the bottom of the stairs and to the side waiting to ambush Lionheart and Kosmic Fire.

Lionheart indicates that nature of the ambush and the number of assailants. They'd be going in hot, if these were to alert the others to their presence and no doubt they'd be alerted at some level. The sophistication of this attack and the nature of its assault must mean they had sufficient resources to determine when there was a super powered response. That was something that Lionheart couldn't do much about. Press forward or let them steam roller their way to a win. Might as well choose the devil or the deep blue sea.

He readied himself to attack.

OOC: OK going with superspeed and martial arts, and when I get around hitting whomever I can with devastating attack, and trying to give a wide birth for Kosmic Fire to follow up without scorching me. So glad that crit misses don't result in friendly fire...yet!

Miss Victory stepped from the bubble as Captain Star landed and Imperious Rex strode up, towering over her and quoting the works of Plutarch. Tiger Lilly marched over and rolled his neck. "Whoever that is, we shall teach them the error of their ways."

Man Of Bronze summoned a perfectly formed hemisphere and turned around, barking an order. "I'll be staying low to the ground to use my Earth Control powers. Water Lilly! See if your magic affects him! Captain Star! Form up a protective suit of armour and try to pin him with your telekinetic powers. Imperious Rex! Imp... oh whatever. Miss Victory, you may be best in a support role. Follow our lead as you are new and inexperienced."

Miss V raised an eyebrow.

The dot suddenly appeared in the sky a hundred yards above the group and looked down, calling out. "Ho! Ultrahumans! I told the others you would survive a simple dive into a volcano? What's this? Second stringers? A couple of pretty ones too!" laughed the man in prison orange. He was classically handsome with an incredible physique and could have been a male model.

"You may not recognise me without my costume but I am OMEGA MAN and I am very displeased at having been locked up!"

Man of Bronze muttered "Oh sh*t."

Captain Star added "We're dead."

Tiger Lilly snorted "I have never met anyone I couldn't outfight!"

Omega Man continued "I recognise a few of you chumps! Man of Bronze, Imperious Rex... are you still insane, Statue? Captain Star? I don't even consider you B list. Perhaps Z list. I would offer a chance to surrender but I have been given a remit to batter you and head to the White House. Pity there are no cameras here to see your downfall!"

Is he in easy leaping distance where she can leap and punch or better leap and tackle him?  Or would it be better to grab a big tree or boulder and throw it at him?  Whichever has the least amount of minuses.  Martial Arts to attack and Acrobatics to defense.

LIONHEART

Lionheart whispers to Kosmic Fire who nods then makes her way down the stairs close behind Lionheart!

The trio waiting at the bottom of the stairs are ready to pounce on whoever comes down ... but they just aren't fast enough to beat Lionheart to the punch!

Apologies for the delay by the way. Aside from sorting out personal stuff over the last few days I'm statting up bad guys like crazy on here which gobbles my updating time up. Should be back up to speed this week, best laid plans and all that...

Lionheart saw a muscled bald man in prison orange, another man floating with an aura of different coloured fields around him and the third with foot long claws stretching from the end of his fingers!

Miss V rubbed her hand. It had been like punching steel when she wasn't a superhuman!

Leaping up to the villain Tiger Lilly is a blur. Quite literally the man is practically invisible! One of the greatest hand to hand fighters on the planet he delivers thousands of blows in the blink of an eye and flings Omega Man backwards through the air!

Even he has to admit as he watches Tiger Lilly land in a crouch and wipes blood from his mouth. "I had not found it possible to think that not just one but two opponents could land a hand on me. More, you have drawn blood. Only Silver Sentinel's trickery defeated me and saw me incarcerated but I promise you this little man (to Tiger Lilly) you will pay for that... with your life!"

The heroes' sister takes aim with her magic powers...

Against Omega Man, a hyper powerful being who could go toe to toe with many of the most powerful Ultrahumans, one with the strength to lift (albeit with extra effort) Mount Everest and toss it a fair distance!

OOC Miss Victory is up. This guy is a monster. Not quite 1e Superman but somewhere in between 2e and 1e.

Drop body back down to its normal 7, put 3 points into Dex and 3 into Str for 22 Dex and 16 Str.  Spend what HP I can to hit and go for Crit blow.  All skills into attack, martial arts and acrobatics or is acrobatics only defense?

Lionheart has only a heartbeat to react - the bald man is FAST, almost as fast as Lionheart himself and his danger sense gives no indication which of the trio is the most dangerous opponent...

With such a limited time frame to operate Lionheart went for the speedster, he had the greatest potential to upend them before they knew what to do, and he had to hope that being a Ultrahuman team member Kosmic Fire could handle herself.

He launched out what he hoped would be a devastating attack on the first of the trio.

Miss Victory steeled herself and shifted her abilities. Her power wasn't that of some of the others but no one could match her versatility!

Tiger Lilly was astonishing, she had to admit that. Not as fast moving as Lionheart but with reflexes that were simply invisible to the naked eye, he'd landed thousands of blows on the villain and even his ability to resist nuclear level munitions had been breached by the small oriental youngster. Miss V's keen mind accepted they were on the back foot. Whilst it was nice to have the Statues' wittering ouot of her ear his strength and durability would have been useful. Now more and more cracks were appearing over his stonelike body... he needed saving!

ooc:  That was like the best attack I could do and I only did 3 body to him!?!?  Yeooww!!! 

I could lower my Dex 2-3 points and raise my Str the same amount but my rolls to hit him are so dang close that I probably wouldn't be able to hit him at all if I did that.  Oh well, max effort to hit and damage the guy.  And hope that the Cracking Thunder is good news, assuming I'm alive after this round.
