Lionheart moved slowly a heaviness that had nothing to do with exhaustion and everything to do with the fact that the prisoners kept here was something else - how they remained was as much a marvel as was the fact they remained on this level and hadn't stormed the rest of the prison to take it over. Advent surely must want these heavy hitters more than any other, Nexus being the icing on their pretty little world-dominating cake.

He wondered what they'd face, but time and again somehow despite being outclassed, outgunned and out of luck they'd pushed through. But that was with the Vanguard, where he'd already lost two of his team, now it was just them and who knew what to face.

Expecting traps, tricks, blasts in the face... Lionheart detected no danger and stepped into the corridor with Miss Victory and Obsidian close behind with Lupus bringing up the rear.

Instead they saw, about twenty feet away, a man with a tanned complexion and curly black hair sat on an office chair filing his nails. Dressed, as everyone was, in Prison orange he looked up and grinned. "HELLO!" he exclaimed and... he was stood up. Even Lionheart who was super fast didn't register him getting up and moving ten feet closer.

"My real name is... unimportant. I am νέμειν némein in my homeland or to you 'Nemesis'. I have been charged to protect this level from intruders!" he smiled. "You qualify as an intruder. As a sporting chap I would offer you a way out. Turn around and go back up then wait. The people who make decisions will soon decide what fate awaits for all of us."

"Or..." he smiled but there was no humour in it. "You find out why I am the most dangerous opponent you will EVER face..."

she prepares to swallow her Vita Pill but waits on his answers before doing so.

Failed again. Relying on the dice alone (rather than spending HP) is at best hit and miss (more miss admittedly with the way the dice have taken you on as the 'hard time' target - it was Dave E/Frostbite for years mind) but rest be assured if you *can* call on the powers of Mind Maiden as well as Miss Victory, you have a very potent power set...

The man chuckled. "I was given an order. ADVENT? What is that? Some kind of Calendar? After those Ultrahuman buffoons put me in here a couple of years ago I lost interest in the outside world. If there is a problem get Silver Sentinel to sort it out. My power can let me beat anyone but he isn't just anyone. It made me stronger than him... but being able to alter the moons orbit isn't much use when your power is taken up by that and nothing else. My downfall, after pasting the rest of his friends into the floor, was quick and embarrassing."

He shrugged. "The worst of the worst are down here. Turn round. Go back to your cells. Read a book. Wait for orders. Word is NEXUS is making ready to break out of here. he is the only one who was able to slap Silver Sentinel around like he was a kid sidekick instead of the best of the best. When he gets out? This ADVENT thing you speak of will bow to him."

Lionheart pipped in, "I'm all for sporting, but the truth is we do care about the outside world and so should you. Nexus could loose, and if he lost what would you lose as a result. If the outside doesn't interest you, what about this here, inside here and you will be experimented on, turned inside out and no doubt your powers become their powers in some fashion. They make nice, but then steal your teeth whilst they get you smiling at them. So we might lose, and I'm good with that because I'd rather lose fighting for the right thing. After all, if we all lived like you, what would there be left to live for?"

Lionheart made ready - being sporting, he wasn't going to just attack within the this strangely named individual having a chance to answer for himself. Besides the smart thing to do, would not be to fight him, if he could mirror his own powers...well he'd fought himself once before and it wasn't something he cared to repeat.

OOC: OK getting ready to use whatever seems best, if need be but really hoping there is a left-field way around this guy without having to have our dignity handed to us in a gift-wrapped package marked loser!

OOC yeah the last guy proved too much to handle! This guy can be just as bad!

Nemesis grinned and shrugged. "Tell you what, I'll be sporting about it eh? I was told to make sure no one came onto this level or got by me, right? It was that or I get my ass handed to me by some of the monsters down here and while I'm tough, ain't no way I'm taking on the likes of SET or LORD SHIVA. Why is it all the baddest asses are named after gods?" he shrugged. "Anyway, go, or let's go! I'll take you ALL on at once!" he laughed.

I realise Martial arts with Speed is my 'best' attack, but it might not be the best team-wise or against this foe, so seeking to be strategic not just bullish. And then with team attack seeking to do what seems best to take and stack the advantage in our favour

OOC Lionhearts best bet is his pure speed, and with that he can usually throw in crit blows and devastating attacks against slower opponents. Mind Blast is good, but if the opponent is shielded chances are it might not get through. LH also gets a mountain of dice to use for attack and defence (5 dice to split as required) so I will assume a split of 3 attack/2 defence.

Miss Victory can try again (one attempt per round really, if she uses her dice action) but it means she won't be attacking this round. Standard split for the Vita pill? Dex 15 Str 17 Bod 13 (RV19)?

Obsidian powers up his super dense form (Dex 8 Str 21 B12 RV21 Kinetic Absorption 7) mc

Lupus has his standard Dex 12 Claws 16 Body 10 Regeneration 10 with four dice to split between attack/defence (acro/M arts)

Have to rush off to work now but will resolve the first round of this tomorrow. Be interesting to see how you guys do.

Miss Victory for her part heard a buzzing sound, there was a woosh of wind and blur of movement, Lionheart started pinging about off the walls like a pinball and Obsidian swung at air whilst Lupus caught the villain with a claw but scratched something harder than even his claws could cut. The buzzing continued and settled in place as an indistinct blur.

ooc: Will using Damage Transference of 2 help Lionheart recover faster so he isn't stunned for 2 rounds? If not, use it for Mind Shield and try to attack.
Vita Powers: Put 13 Power Reserve points into Dex so I max out at 23 Dex I'm allowed. Put the remaining 10 points in Strength to give me a 16 Strength.

If Miss Victory can't hit him, doesn't matter how strong she is.

She's thinking about how he said he lost after being tricked. Was there someway they could trick him as well?

OOC You can buy off that limitation (max stat at aps of power reserve) but if I recall it costs 5x whatever the weakness netted you in the first place so it won't be cheap but it would boost Miss V to a max Dex of 33, which is... well, staggering, pre crisis make a monkey of Superman level. Food for thought.

Miss Victory had seen the most powerful member of their group pinged around like a squash ball and knew the rest of them were in for a hard time.

The power of healing she knew Mind Maiden could call on would take a minute or so to use. This fight would be over in seconds!

There had to be a way to defeat this villain to use his own power against him, but how. Lionheart had never had such a beating and he hurt, and hurt badly. Although his healing factor would kick in soon enough, it was not great to feel so vulnerable and...well mortal.

OOC: Since I can't use a dice action, can I use my super senses to gain any clues as to what we might be able to do, to turn this around an Achillies heel of some sort? Otherwise, I am just shouting from the sidelines, and little else.

The voice continued. 'He was beaten before hence the reason he is in here. His abilities allow him to automatically copy and utilise the best of the abilities of anyone he faces... hmmm. Question. If he copies those abilities what if ...'

1) The man known as Nemesis must be beatable, despite his apparent advantages. Being able to pick from the available abilities of everyone within a certain range or other parameter...
2-3) but when those people are not in range can he then call on those abilities? And what if they were .. unconscious? Could Frostbite use powers when unconscious? No. So it stands to reason Nemesis may not be able to call on them. Also, the walls, floors, doors of this place block superhuman abilities better than pretty much anything...

Saladin ran through the strategies that marked him as a near undefeatable soldier even when ranged against the legions of PSI Corps mk2 troops that hunted him down. He was one step ahead every single step of the way and it took one man - Lionheart - to defeat him and merge with him... to create the ULTIMATE PSI Corps operative of the 22nd Century. Even so, there were beings with powers and abilities beyond the remit of even the year 2193AD.

OOC something to go on there. To remind everyone - I'm not a fan of no win situations and give players every chance to crack the 'code' of how to get out of a situation ... and when that doesn't work you can fall back on the intelligence of your characters. Lionheart has Intelligence 10. By any measure he is a genius. Not as smart as say... Reed Richards (13) but along the lines of Tony Stark (9-10) even if his intelligence lies in different directions from gadgets and invention. May still take a roll and I won't make it easy (you may have to overcome your stat +1) but I'll always try to throw you guys a crumb

OOC: I'm not a genius and though I could think of a way to 'win' I am not sure it would work. My only idea would be to scoop everyone up and whisk them out the door and then shut the door on Nemesis, where the metal would prevent him from effectively using our own powers against us. However there might be a speedier (and in-game terms) more manageable way to do things, so let's take that dice action and hope that I can yet find a way to defeat this canny conniving criminally cantankerous crook

OOC The dice action you mention was the clues in the last post.

That isn't his dice action for the round, just a free gift from me to nudge you guys in the right direction. This guy is crazy powerful... because you are. Literally his stats are formed up exactly the same as you guys... but ALL of you guys, so the highest Dex, highest Int, highest power reserve etc. The clues were:

Knock Miss Victory out so he can't copy her Power Reserve 23 (quite a bit more powerful than Lionhearts own Power Reserve 15, and the reason you guys are having so much trouble) and therefore you are fighting pretty much yourself plus whatever Obsidian and Lupus give him (not much - LH and Miss V are the powerhouses) or
Scoop everyone out of the way, shut the door behind and 'reset' the bad guy, but as soon as the door opens he copies everything the same....

Or you can try an all out attack (5D M Arts nothing left for defence) go for a devastating attack and hope for a good roll and knock his block off. Lupus has hit him, and Miss Victory landed a beauty on him but didn't KO him. Maybe a mega roll (like the one that pinged Lionheart off lots of walls) will put him down!

As for Miss Victorys' mental attack thing, I would not have thought that Mind Maiden could affect Lionheart (and Nemesis copying him) because he is a formidable mentalist himself with high Mental Defence.

Lionheart spoke quick and said simply said, "Trust me"

And with that grabbed everyone in a telekinetic ball and ran for the door as fast as he could, hoping that his sudden move might be the very opposite of what Nemesis imagined him to do. It was a desperate move for a desperate moment, the only thing he could think to do short of knocking out Miss V or going all out on one last desperate attempt to attack Nemesis in a last-ditch attempt to overwhelm his abilities. Something that Lionheart was reluctant to do. He had to hope the others got the gist of what he was trying to do, and didn't fight back. At least if he could get Miss V and himself out of the room, he would significantly alter Nemesis abilities.

Lionheart formed a telekinetic bubble around the 'team' and whizzed off shutting the door behind him into the stairwell!

And just like that, this battle was over!

The doors, walls and floors of this place were made of a special material that blocked ALL powers from most conventional metahumans, up to a certain level. Nexus, fully empowered, and possibly Silver Sentinel would be able to overcome it and treat it as ordinary metal, but the alloy was a unique, expensive and incredible feat of future engineering technology.

The United States government had tried to replicate it, patent it, control it, but they were put in their place by the most powerful minds and psyches on the Planet. It came together in a one off collaboration of the best of the best - even if some of them were villains - with the sole purpose of housing the worst of the worst.

And so when Nemesis tried to stop Lionheart from leaving the door partially closed blocked off some of his power... and the door closing shut off the rest.

On the other side of the door was an ordinary man. As soon as you opened the door...

His power needs to be activated, is my guess, so it will take a second once we are where he can duplicate our abilities but in that second you could have us around a corner and away with all these walls blocking him from using our powers again."

OOC: Once again your knowledge of the rules helps us out Dave, phew I'd have no idea how else to do this. And hopefully, since we'd get a high initiative to act we can do as suggested before he even gets to act.

Lionheart nodded checking everyone was ok with this plan. It seemed a bit strange, but a being who could use their own strengths against them was one who needed something strange to defeat. In fact, the only way to victory here was to use defeat as the weapon. To not attack, and come at this in a sideways approach.
