OOC You're in deepest darkest Italy. Any thoughts on how to get back to Britain, or at least France where the British Expeditionary Force waits for rescue on the beaches of Dunkirk?
Oh, and we've combined DC characters in our little gaming universe, now it's Marvel's turn Very Happy

Going to think on this a bit as to what to do next. This is still early May or June of 1940? yes? There's also the North Africa campaign going on and we are a bit closer to that.

Yay internet searches:
Fighting in North Africa started with the Italian declaration of war on 10 June 1940. On 14 June, the British Army's 11th Hussars (assisted by elements of the 1st Royal Tank Regiment, 1st RTR) crossed the border from Egypt into Libya and captured the Italian Fort Capuzzo. This was followed by an Italian counter-offensive into Egypt and the capture of Sidi Barrani in September and its recapture by the British in December following a British Commonwealth counteroffensive, Operation Compass. During Operation Compass, the Italian 10th Army was destroyed and the German Afrika Korps—commanded by Erwin Rommel, who later became known as "The Desert Fox"—was dispatched to North Africa in February 1941 during Operation Sonnenblume to reinforce Italian forces in order to prevent a complete Axis defeat.

Re: Prof Wynde and Wonder Man TEAM UP! Issue #1
The Dunkirk evacuation, codenamed Operation Dynamo and also known as the Miracle of Dunkirk, was the evacuation of Allied soldiers during World War II from the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk, in the north of France, between 26 May and 4 June 1940. The operation commenced after large numbers of Belgian, British, and French troops were cut off and surrounded by German troops during the six-week Battle of France. In a speech to the House of Commons, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill called this "a colossal military disaster", saying "the whole root and core and brain of the British Army" had been stranded at Dunkirk and seemed about to perish or be captured.[7] In his "We shall fight on the beaches" speech on 4 June, he hailed their rescue as a "miracle of deliverance".[8]
After Nazi Germany invaded Poland in September 1939, France and the British Empire declared war on Germany and imposed an economic blockade. The British Expeditionary Force (BEF) was sent to help defend France. After the Phoney War of October 1939 to April 1940, Germany invaded Belgium, the Netherlands, and France on 10 May 1940. Three panzer corps attacked through the Ardennes and drove northwest to the English Channel. By 21 May, German forces had trapped the BEF, the remains of the Belgian forces, and three French field armies along the northern coast of France. BEF commander General Viscount Gort immediately saw evacuation across the Channel as the best course of action, and began planning a withdrawal to Dunkirk, the closest good port.
Late on 23 May, a halt order was issued by Generaloberst Gerd von Rundstedt, commander of Army Group A. Adolf Hitler approved this order the next day, and had the German High Command send confirmation to the front. Attacking the trapped BEF, French, and Belgian armies was left to the Luftwaffe until the order was rescinded on 26 May. This gave Allied forces time to construct defensive works and pull back large numbers of troops to fight the Battle of Dunkirk. From 28 to 31 May, in the siege of Lille, the remaining 40,000 men of the French First Army fought a delaying action against seven German divisions, including three armoured divisions.
On the first day only 7,669 Allied soldiers were evacuated, but by the end of the eighth day, 338,226 had been rescued by a hastily assembled fleet of over 800 vessels. Many troops were able to embark from the harbour's protective mole onto 39 British Royal Navy destroyers, four Royal Canadian Navy destroyers,[4] at least three French Navy destroyers, and a variety of civilian merchant ships. Others had to wade out from the beaches, waiting for hours in shoulder-deep water. Some were ferried to the larger ships by what became known as the Little Ships of Dunkirk, a flotilla of hundreds of merchant marine boats, fishing boats, pleasure craft, yachts, and lifeboats called into service from Britain. The BEF lost 68,000 soldiers during the French campaign and had to abandon nearly all of its tanks, vehicles, and equipment. In his 4 June speech, Churchill also reminded the country that "we must be very careful not to assign to this deliverance the attributes of a victory. Wars are not won by evacuations."[9]

Re: Prof Wynde and Wonder Man TEAM UP! Issue #1
ooc: Not sure as to the date at this point for this adventure. I think we are in June but has the evacuation ended, extended in this timeline or it's not June 4th yet or after it?
"Okay, gentlemen, time to decide what to do next." Prof. Wynde tells Hawkers and the recovering Wonderman. "We can try to get through France back to England. You may not know this, Hawkers but the Allies are losing and France is falling and the allied army is trying to flee to England with whatever they can carry on their backs. We can try to get to Egypt. That front is opening up soon. Hawkers, I imagine you can join any air unit whichever way we go. So we can drop you off at any British forces base and they will get you into some unit."
"We, meaning Wonderman and I, can take this time to head for the U.S. and help protect them until they join the war. Or we can do other options that you two may think of. Shall we discuss what to do?"
ooc: It's now 1940. From what I can see, we left Stone Fist and the Jade Hood in 1933 in Egypt in episode 5 heading for India.
I wonder if this might be a good place to bring them back? They've been fighting against and teamed-up with time travelers and aliens who are probably not Advent but some other group. After 7 more years of fighting and experience, they might be as powerful as Prof. Wynde and Wonderman now. Or might be considered high level sidekicks, not as powerful as the two.
I didn't really spot any character sheets for Stone Fist and Jade Hood but we were using a different game system anyways back then.
We could use, as a framework, Power Man's and Iron Fist's build on Writeups.org with tweaks. I wonder if Dave would be interested in pairing up for another adventure playing Jade Hood?
Heading towards Egypt, the Middle East and India and other points East might be interesting. Or not. This is the time period where lots of golden age heroes have ties or origins to that area.
Something to think about?

Re: Prof Wynde and Wonder Man TEAM UP! Issue #1
OOC Options...
1) Help with the remnants/last few days of the Dunkirk evacuation. With ADVENT and superhuman interference from the Nazis they may change the course of history yet. Chruchill called the evacuation a miracle but it was a military disaster. The loss of virtually all their hardware was tempered by the saving of so many. If the Axis are tipped into increasing their attacks and capturing or killing more troops, that might change history...
2) North Africa might turn out very, very differently if they call on giant mechs as the Lore Knights battled at Caer Alwyn
3) ADVENT know what happened, and what will happen. Pearl harbour in a way was needed to get America to enter the war when the politicians were clearly against it for the most part. The British would be in huge trouble without the American war machine helping them. This kind of adventure would be the hunting out of secret cells and spies, plus keeping the American authorities busy with a rise in super powered crime!
4) Jade Hood and Stone Fist were originally used as an introduction to the DC Heroes RPG, our first foray away from the Golden Heroes rule set. From there we switched the Vanguard game to the rules and never revisitied the pulp heroes. Street level but as you say, seven years later they will be older, wiser and more powerful. The stats will be cooked up again and the characters based on 900-1000HP I should think instead of the original 450HP starting character setup. Their involvement as PCs is dependent on time really. I don't mind running another game but I am mindful that right now I'm about at my limit - my posting rate has slowed consdiderably and I don't want to take something on that will slow things down further. However we have not, I promise you, seen the last of these two. Who knows, they may have encountered a yogi in the mountains of Tibet who transformed them into stone to reawaken when the world was in dire need of their skill and determination...
5) Return to Britain. She will need defenders. You know the Lore Knights are the protectors of the United Kingdom but there are dangers that may require the power and experience of Wonder Man and Prof Wynde to repel. Mystical dangers, the like of which man was not meant to know of...

Re: Prof Wynde and Wonder Man TEAM UP! Issue #1
I'm leaning towards helping out at Dunkirk or going to Egypt/North Africa. Guess I really want to know what the NPCs would like to do or what they think. Hawkers will want to go somewhere that puts him back in a fighter, that much I know, but Dunkirk wouldn't put him back in a plane though he could be evacuated from there and fly in England. Wonderman, being American, might want to head for America, though that could wait until summer of 1941 or head for Dunkirk or suggest something else. I know he is ready to bash heads pretty much wherever but would like to know what or where he would prefer to do that.
Rather than make the decision unilaterally, even though I'm the player, I want to know what the NPCs with Prof Wynde think.
I wouldn't really see Stonefist and Jade Hood in a solo adventure [duo adventure?] but as part of an existing adventure. Heck, since they were fighting time traveling criminals, they could just as easily appear in the Haunt/Steeplejack adventure or our 21st Century adventure as easily as the WW2 adventure. Or not show up at all until H/S time hop into another adventure further up the time stream [WW1?].
Or they could stay at 450 HP and go bother Kid Kinetic in their future, our present. Though I doubt that player wants us horning in on his action.

Re: Prof Wynde and Wonder Man TEAM UP! Issue #1
Hawkers smiled, but looked tired. "I would kill for a bath and a gin and tonic. I need to get back and report that the base is gone."
Wonder Man looked pained as he settled down to a sitting position. "I need time to heal. Without the ring I'm a regular joe. With it? I can feel bones knitting back together, torn muscles reforming and this battered body getting back to normal, but that will take a day or two assuming I don't get clobbered again. That said... we can't sit around while I get back in shape. You say the Allies are having trouble getting off that beach? How about this. We take Hawkers back there and mess things up a little for the goose stepping goons?" He looked at Prof Wynde. "You know how it goes don't you? Or... how it's supposed to go, without giant robots, flying ratzis and super weapons. The Brits and French are suffering and they need help. Our buddies in the Lore Knights can't help them. We gotta do it."
"That sounds like a noble cause." said Hawkers. "And it helps me get back home. I have a nasty feeling that this place is going to be crawling with Nazis for smashing their secret airplane making machine base and setting back the war effort in Italy."
=========
Berlin...
"What? WHAT?" roared the head of the third reich. (OOC translated) He continued to rant, throwing things around and the Generals and staff in the bunker winced. The only person in the room who seemed unmoved was an outlandish looking man.
Minutes later, his rage still boiling, Der Fuhrer turned to the man. "Well? These buffoons want to throw troops and tanks at the problem and find them. Troops and tanks that are needed elsewhere! What do YOU say?"
"I say... give me the free reign of the resources and I will find these men... and kill them. Count on it." he hissed from behind the mask.
Der Fuhrer snarled, sneered at his Generals and threw a glass of wine to the floor. "Do it." he hissed.
"Heil Hitler." said the masked man as he turned and marched out.
=========
The trio watched from the cover of trees as a French village was turned inside out by German soldiers looking for... well, anything.
They'd made decent time but were limited by Wonder Man's injuries. Injuries that would have, should have killed him. Instead he was slowly regaining his mobility and strength and within a day or so would be back up to his full fighting power.
"We need food and supplies." said Hawkers. "But part of me wants to sock it to them nazis who are bullying the french." he said as he saw petrified villagers dragged from their houses by brutal German Stormtroopers. From the distance they were at they wouldn't be seen, but this was a hundred or more soldiers, plus tanks, armoured vehicles and machine gun outposts being set up. As a village it had no strategic value. However as a place on a supply route it meant the Germans would want somewhere to stay and the French? Chances were they wouldn't worry about much of anything in a short while...

ooc: It's common knowledge that in the 1940s, everyone in Europe spoke English, even if it was with a heavy accent. All the comic books of the time prove this.

"Wonderman, how healed up are you," Prof. Wynde asks. "Enough to flip over some tanks? Or is that still out of your range? I would like to help these folks but even if we stop the Germans that are here now, more will be back. At best, we might buy them a few days; it might give them a chance to escape into the countryside or they might stay and face the reprisals for our actions here."
"OF course, if they are going to start shooting them, then we will act and help as best we can."
ooc: Depending on if they are forming firing squads or are just fortifying the place for later will determine if Prof. Wynde attacks or moves on or tries for an outlying farm house for food and news. Also, is this a part of France that forms Vichy France in a few months or the northern part that the Nazi will totally control?

OOC This will be part of Vichy France. Skimming over the horrible details of villages like Oradour-sur-Glane which happened in 1944 and putting our comics code version on Advent changed events, we have...
Wonder Man exhaled, then shrugged. "I'm ready to go when you are. Flipping a tank? Should be easy. Normally. My arms were both broken but aside from some stiffness they move ok."
Hawkers was watching the village. "This is awful! When word gets around that the Nazis are ... doing whatever they like to the inhabitants of villages this will petrify them into submission! The French will surrender faster than you can say... 'by Jove!' We HAVE to do something!"
With his superior sight Prof Wynde could see better than the others, though at this distance it was still a push...
The inhabitants of the village - older men, women and children, were being dragged out and rounded up by soldiers.
As Prof Wynde watched a strange tank rolled up. Much faster than normally tracked vehicles.
And another, slower and larger, without an obvious weapon.
Followed by another of the first vehicle with gun slowly rotating as it watched.
The large tracked vehicle stopped and started to... unfold, into a kind of mobile building! Even some of the German soldiers gaped as the sides expanded and folded out, sections sliding until it became a large box with the tracks completely covered. More of a mobile building than a vehicle.
Men in white coats came out, chatting amongst themselves and looking over at where the village inhabitants were gathered.
Something was about to happen...

"Sockamagee! Â They are going to experiment on the villagers," Â Prof. Wynde exclaimed. Â "And no, it's not supposed to happen now but later in the death camps. Â We have to do something."
He thinks a bit.
"The odds of me doing any real damage to those strange vehicles are slim. Â I can probably take out about a half dozen troops pretty quickly but those vehicles ... do you think you can flip them or smash their cannons or something, Wonderman?"
ooc: Â Looks like we are going into action at this currently nameless village. Â PW is going to use his military science plus any Hawkers can add in to figure out the best way to attack. Â Off the top of my head, I'm thinking taking out troops manning some machine guns in one spot, making an opening for the villagers to flee the town square and escape into the countryside. Â Probably using Magic Blast, might be more effective against troops over Wind Blast.
Oh! Just had a weird idea. Wonderman's Shouting power might be useful here in keeping the Germans distracted, those in range of his monologue, reducing the number of foes we have to face in the first round. Been awhile since I read the power but I think it has a very limited range.

Re: Prof Wynde and Wonder Man TEAM UP! Issue #1
Wonder Man listened and nodded. "I can try to distract them. Hawkers. Do you think you can go around the village, lying low until you hear me n Wyndy go into action? My shout can be heard for a way and Prof Wynde is never quiet with his hurricane strength winds!"
Hawkers nodded, clearly desperate to see these villagers escape.
Wonder Man added "get as close as you can in the cover of trees and when all hell breaks loose make sure the villagers know to run towards you. If you get spotted, run, use cover of the trees and we'll take the heat from you a heartbeat later!"
The RAF pilot grinned "Who wants to live forever anyway?" he whispered, glancing at the village then scowling before crouching and heading off.
Prof Wynde looks at the village then narrows his eyes, boosting his vision 100%, effectively halving the visual range. The guns the Nazi troops carried...

Nazis generally hadn't been let loose with Advent toys without direct Advent supervision or some evidence that Advent goons were in charge. Here Prof Wynde figured this was Nazi goons ... or someone along those lines... who were playing with Advents toys off their own back. That was dangerous. He was from the future and if the Nazis - or whoever these guys were - starting developing weapons of war this early on then the entire course of the war and history itself might be altered! However these guys were. they represented something new, something dangerous...

Re: Prof Wynde and Wonder Man TEAM UP! Issue #1
Giving Hawkers time to get in position, Prof. Wynde moves himself as close as he can towards the men he is about to attack while remaining in hiding himself, remembering the bright colors he is wearing. Then he awaits Wonderman's appearance.

Re: Prof Wynde and Wonder Man TEAM UP! Issue #1
Wonder Man, in combat fatigues grabbed from a pile in the room he was in, was looking less 'Wonder' these days but despite being battered, broken up and in serious need of R&R, Prof Wynde had no doubt that his friend was still a hero to the core.
He watched as Hawkers moved through the trees and out of sight. Meanwhile the white coated Nazi - or whoever they were - scientists were sifting through the villagers. Whilst soldiers held the arms of a woman or child another scientist would take a blood sample from them and have the subject labelled before being moved to another area. The sample would be taken to the special tank that had 'unfolded' into what Prof Wynde assumed was a mobile lab.
"Buddy I've seen some stuff that wouldn't be out of place in a Buck Rogers serial but I have to say, whatever these Nazi guys are doing is giving me the creeps!" whispered Wonder Man.
They watched and waited, scouring the tree line on the other side of the village with Prof Wynde's superior vision picking out a mostly obscured Hawkers who was giving a thumbs up gesture. Prof Wynde pointed out to Wonder Man who nodded and looked about ready to make his move...
Suddenly there were cries of alarm and panic from the villagers who were quickly quelled by cruel guards using the butts of their weapons!
From the back of the tank/lab came a creature Prof Wynde had never seen before!

Re: Prof Wynde and Wonder Man TEAM UP! Issue #1
"Ah Nutzburger," Prof. Wynde cursed, "just once, can't we manage to set up an ambush and attack from surprise without being surprised ourselves?"
"Big head. Maybe some kind of mental abilities? A mutant or mutant or Inhuman? Probably not an alien is my guess.
Could be wrong though since I don't think these goons work for Advent but set up shop on their own," he muses.
"Okay, I'll try magic blasting him and the 7 guards nearest Hawkers. You take out the big weapons try to keep the path clear for the villagers to flee down. Ready? GO!"
actions: Flight to get in range, got to remember to raise telescopic vision up to 8 one day, and magic blast the Big Head and the 7 Nazis/Hydra agents for the escape path. Hopefully PW has heard enough French from the villagers that he can comprehend it and speak it.
"Flee! Flee the village and the Nazis," he yells, in hopefully understandable French, "Go that way or be doomed!"
Magic Blasting time.

Re: Prof Wynde and Wonder Man TEAM UP! Issue #1
OOC I was going to resolve but if you are after surprise you have options. You can shoot from where you are for a surprise bonus but will lose out from the range. If you fly closer you will be spotted (you could try hiding but you stick out like a sore thumb and the last time I checked you don't have the Thief skill. That means any stealth check will be unskilled and very likely to fail.)
Your call. If you are flying closer before shooting, how close do you want to get? Prof Wynde is fast enough to zip to within 1AP (20') but shooting that many targets will be tricky. There will be an intiative check if you choose to fly closer...

ooc: Kind of hoping Wonderman's Shout power would hold them in place just long enough for Prof. Wynde to get into position. With multiple targets, even with Accuracy, don't want to also take range penalties if I can avoid them.

Re: Prof Wynde and Wonder Man TEAM UP! Issue #1
OOC Shouting has a range of 2APs (40') so it isn't that good really. Ok against ordinary people in the street I guess but otherwise a bit rubbish. With super ventriloquism or sonic blast you can increase the range.
Wonder Man hisses "I can get in amongst them and start swinging if you like?"
Prof Wynde looked across the clearing and to where Hawkers was waiting, watching.
Just then the (clearly) alien creature thrust a hand out and a beam of purple energy snaked from its head to envelope a young woman! She cried out and rose from the floor, writhing! The villagers were gasping in terror, and even some of the Nazi/Whoever they were troops were taking a step back!
Wonder Man hissed "What the...?" and looked about to leap anyway. The hapless young woman stopped writhing and hovered about ten feet off the ground, wrapped in purple energy that snaked back to the Alien's head! Then she opened her eyes, and they shone with purple energy!
When she spoke, the heroes could just about hear her distinctly non human voice, albeit in French!

"Let's take him down then you get the heavy weapons and I will go for the troops," Prof. Wynde says, hoping they can at least act before everyone else as he summons his tornado and rides it into their midst.

Re: Prof Wynde and Wonder Man TEAM UP! Issue #1
Wonder Man nods then leaps from a crouch towards the village!
Prof Wynde summons a tornado - never the quietest method of getting about - and takes to the air!
The soldiers see the dust and hear the WOOOSH of wind and drag weapons up, bring them to bear!
The khaki blur that is Wonder Man lands amongst them and shouts "Nazi stooges!" before grabbing the tank/lab and flipping it, sending it tumbling twenty feet away and soldiers scattering in its wake!
Prof Wynde grins - his friend is back! Then he concentrates, taking aim... He could have surprised the targets by shooting from the tree line but then they'd be far away and difficult to aim at... one couldn't have it both ways!
Closer, he takes aim whilst hovering 20' up in order to minimize the range between the furthest targets. He also picks the ones who aren't behind cover...
OOC Whilst there is no surprise there is no need to check for initiative - the heroes goes first.

Reeling from the shots Prof Wynde is cheered when he sees the panicked villagers scream and run, then change course when they see Hawkers waving from the treeline! Some of them are too terrified to move and curl up with their heads down, especially when the soldiers open fire on Wonder Man!

Prof Wynde was distracted... the French girl who'd been 'energised' by the Alien was writhing on the floor and glowing ever more purple! She looked to be in pain but wasn't making a sound, and the 'tether' to the Alien was thining by the moment and it, too was writhing in agony. It was also shrivelling up and looked to be in serious trouble!
All the while laser fire criss crossed about, there were still French villagers cringing and staying on the floor, about twenty or so. A quick glance about revealed at least... fifteen... twenty Hydra soldiers with those fancy laser weapons! More than that, the two tanks that had been escorts were whirring as their guns trained on their new targets - Prof Wynde and Wonder Man!

Prof. Wynde flies down grabs the girl and then lets loose an aoe wind blast to blow away as many of the troops as possible without harming the villagers. He figures Wonderman can take the wind blast too, if he has to, in order to blow away those soldiers. He can take it. Probably. Maybe. Hopefully.

OOC no magic sensed. This is something else. Mental energy.
"Whoa now missy." said Wonder Man, looking out from the trees where the burning tanks he'd flipped were filling the air with black smoke.
"So far no sign of the Ratzis, but they'll be back once they get on the horn to their buddies."
The woman looked from Wonder Man to Prof Wynde and frowned. Then she spoke.
"Why do you resist us?" she said in a creepy spooky voice that probably wasn't her own and wasn't even French!
She started to glow with a purple energy about her!

He opens his arms and the weapons fall from them, rusting before the heroes very eyes into brown crust!
"I didn't touch them, honest!" he says.
Hawkers comes over. "I told those Frenchies to stick to the woods and keep moving. This country is doomed. To be honest I'm surprised some of the French haven't allied with the Germans. It seems - to them anyway - the war is over already and the Nazis won!"
Prof Wynde looks about. The village is partially burning, the smoke reaching up in the sky for miles. More Nazis would come. They'd saved the villagers - for now - but it was inevitable they would run into trouble down the line. He glanced down at the woman in his arms. Young, early twenties and pretty, but seemingly tied in some way to that Alien creature which had linked to her. The problem was... would she remained linked if the Alien were killed and would that take her with it?
"We might have a little while before those Ratzis get back." said Wonder Man. "I'll search about for food and supplies." he said, glancing at the weapons on the floor which were nothing more than piles of brown rust!
