Where: Classified
When: End of September 1939
What: War was declared by the United Kingdom on Germany on the 3rd of September. Germany has already invaded Poland. Worrying reports from spies have suggested the Nazis may have a secret weapon that will soon be common knowledge. 'Super' agents, endowed with powers and abilities beyond imagination.
Who: General Forbes, head of DICE field operations, has been summoned to a meeting with his opposite number, Brigadier Dawson of the Strange Sciences Section of Dice. Forbes has General (ret.) Clive Wynn and his batman, Slobotham (Sgt. Major, ret.) with him. Joe Hoskyn, a recent army recruit from America, is held at the same place where the meeting is going on, and Lieutenant Lance Allard, revealed to be a superhuman himself, is present to.
Why: The Nazis have gained a massive advantage in the war effort. If the Allies don't fight back, the war could be over before it's truly begun!

Heroes, endowed with powers and abilities beyond those of normal people and hiding a dark secret - they are the last line of defence between reality as we know it and utter oblivion! Each battles with a secret inner power that threatens to overwhelm them, but they all have the same goal - to stop the Shadow Demons taking over the Universe! Despite the challenges, the tragedies, the sacrifices, they are...

World War II - The Vanguard Issue #1 (Crossover Stormwarden, Putty, Frostbite) 2cd9yk7

And they are mankinds best, last, only hope!

A darkened room in an underground bunker below Bletchley Park country home.

"General. I believe you know Captain Steed of the Peelers. The others are Elizabeth Hope, Dr Gerald Mathers-Warren and Professor Albert Von Martens, key members of my team here at strange sciences. This is Lieutenant... Allard. The bandages are a consequence of a recent accident he suffered, but you are about to see why the details of this meeting should be kept of the utmost secrecy. The Prime Minister will be briefed once we have concrete details, as will the first lord of the Admiralty, Winston Churchill." said Brigadier Dawson.

He frowned. "I'm aware of your friendship with General Wynn and Mr Slobotham, but need I remind you Forbes that not only are they retired, they are actually civilians? I'm of a mind to..."

Forbes waved his old friend quiet. "Listen to what I have to say. Several hours ago my old friend and mentor came out of a coma..."

Steed gasped and looked at Dawson. "You mean that...?"

Forbes continued "Captain." he reminded her. "Clive here has something very special to show you. I know the Peelers are following leads that we have on various people who have recently woken from comas. Not all are connected, but those we know about have been, in some cases, visited by someone named Dr Henry Carter. Carter actually died 5 months ago, so we don't know who this person is. And the reports suggest... he's not a person."

"Clive, would you show everyone what you showed me and Slobbie a few hours ago, then we'll see what the Lieutenant can do before we proceed." said the General.

Steed held up her hand. "Sorry to interrupt, but there is someone else in detention bay three in questioning at the moment who awoke from a coma recently too. According to Peeler 6 he had a hand in chasing off one of these... Carters. Even if he's not.. talented, he may have valuable information. He's American, signed up to do his part..."

"Shame the others won't get off their behinds and do theirs..." remarked General Forbes. Dawson held up a hand. "We'll see him in a minute, it's only down the hall. General Wynn? If you please?"

=========

Down the hall, Detention cell 3

The scientist had asked his questions, Joe had answered them, and he'd scratched his head. "You're a cool customer son. The machine's not telling me a damn thing. I mean that. Whatever is wrong with it, well, I suppose I'll have to apologise in advance. Until we fix it you'll have to stay here. Don't worry, we will feed you and make sure you're comfortable..."

Joe was about to protest, but suddenly his date seemed of secondary importance to finding out what had gone on. Kim might understand... He winced. No gal liked being stood up. The door opened and a beautiful woman poked her head in. She was clad in army uniform and wore Captains bars. Whispering to Mathers-Warren, she glanced at Joe. He couldn't help but smile - she was beyond pretty, and Joe had an eye for ... well, any lady!

Mathers-Warren turned "We'll sort some food out for you young man. Hopefully I won't be too long."

The soldiers stared stonily ahead on either side of the doorway. Joe looked about, up, down, around. "So guys, nice weather we been havin' huh?" he tried on the soldiers.

No response...

OOC Hoping to tie up at least three of you - Kitten will be along shortly too, and that leaves just the man from Nowhere on the loose, as usual. Putty, Stormwarden and Frostbite, away you go...

"Sir," Lt. Allard said respectfully, "If I'm not supposed to exist anymore perhaps a new name would be in order?"

"What do you suggest," the Brigadier asked.

"How about ... Lt. Anyman, sir?"

Frostbite

The soldiers stared stonily ahead on either side of the doorway. Joe looked about, up, down, around. "So guys, nice weather we been havin' huh?" he tried on the soldiers.

Joe looked around the stark cold room. Despite the fact it was cold and austere he didn't seem to feel cold. In fact he could have sworn that he hadn't felt temperature changes very much at all. Despite being in what amounted to a cold cell. Picking up his clothes he put them back on, turned around and got ready for whatever was next. After a day like this it was hard to image what that mind be.

OOC: Ok I have loved the way Dave has had Putty interact with the other NPC's so I am going to try a bit of that myself. My writing is no where as good as either of you so feel free to change this as you see fit.

Moments later another secret service type showed up, spoke to the guards and indicated with a wave for Joe to join him. He opened up the door and they walked on down the corridor into a large room, that itself seemed crowded with a strange assortment of different people.

Joe hesitated at the door, but then stepped in. Taking in the group he noted the uniforms, the scientists and the civilians. It had him scratching his head as he wordlessly took a seat.

It was Dawson who had been speaking as Joe had stepped in and it was he who now turned to the Joe and introduced him to the rest of the group. Still somewhat dumbstruck by the distinguished company the room held, he nodded briefly.

"Now, Joe..." Dawson glanced a file on his desk, "Hoskyn, isn't it? Why don't you tell us what you saw and what has been going on."

Shaking himself a bit, as much to wipe the dumb look off his face, Joe spoke, "Well sir,"

Suddenly realising in his confusion he hadn't even saluted as he came in, he tried to cover the sudden realisation by pressing on into his story. Explaining how he had awoken and how he'd been told that he'd been out for a week, in some sort of unexplained coma.

Following this a Doctor inexplicably wanted to meet with him, Carter. When Joe met with the man, he had tried to inject him with a syringe. At this point Joe looked away, but only for a moment, as the real events spiralled through his brain. How he had heard voices, how he thought this Carter might in fact be a Caldwell, and how he'd defended himself with a blast of...ice! It didn't make any sense. So instead he covered, by leaving out the more fantastic elements of their scuffle. "But then came the most strange part, sir."

"Go on!" Dawson said, looking knowingly at the rest of the group.

"Well Carter sort of melted away and turned into this thing. It was as if a child had moulded a person from clay. He tried to get away, I gave chase but he disappeared into the sewers as your these men showed up looking for me. It was after that I arrived here."

Joe having finished his story looked around, aware of how strange it all seemed and yet also aware no one was laughing.

OOC: Joe has left out a lot, which between us I imagine isn't fooling anyone. But he is somewhat scared of what has actually happened and so reluctant to admit it openly. Not only because he fears being denied entry to enlist, but also because if they do take it seriously he fears something is terrible wrong with him. After all he's just a Kansas farm boy!

Joe having finished his story looked around, aware of how strange it all seemed and yet also aware no one was laughing.

"Wait a minute! You said a Dr. Carter attacked you," the man with the full head bandage said. "A man calling himself Dr. Henry Carter, a burn specialist, attacked me too. Tried to give me something in a syringe that wouldn't be good for me. We fought, he almost escaped, changing into some kind of goo form, oozing through the floor. I caught up with him and he drank something, an acid or something, and he dissolved right in front of my eyes and a bunch of other witnesses."

Lt. "Anyman" goes on to describe what his Dr. Carter looked like.

"Certainly, Sir." Clive concentrated... "I can assure you Captain, that this is a talent I did not possess before my recent collapse. It may also explain the odd weather we've been getting since." He frowned. "I haven't been targetted - at least as far as we know - by this mysterious Doctor Carter, though. Why?"

Joe gasped. Before spluttering out,

"Wow that's just like m...!" Me was what he was about to say before he stopped himself, realising in his shock he'd probably given away more than he wanted to.

OOC:

At this point Paul I think you might want to create the opportunity where I explain myself, but having only done it once and in an emergency - the chances of me being able to do it again and indeed of the voices within my head are another thing entirely. But seeing, what he has, it paves the way for him to feel he is not alone and that therefore his powers might not be a cause for concern he thinks they might otherwise be.

"Certainly, Sir." Clive concentrated. It was certainly far easier to do this now than it had been earlier. "I take it you hadn't mentioned the fact that we've working together before this, albeit off the record, Looking at the LDV." Clive looked across at the others faces as he once more summoned up a miniature snow storm right here in the bunker. "I haven't been targetted - at least as far as we know - by this mysterious Doctor Carter, though. Why?"

Slobotham coughed. "Ah, I didn't mention sir. A man named Carter turned up insisting he be allowed to examine and treat you. I told him that no bloody witch doctor was going to lay a hand on you and that the army physicians had it covered, so I told the bounder to bugger off before I slotted him. 'Pardon my french', to the ladies present..."

The Sergeant Major frowned. "I was a lot bigger than the chap, but he didn't seem fussed in the slightest, simply nodded, smiled, and let himself out. Doesn't sound like he wanted to see the general as bad as these others..."

=========

Elsewhere in Bletchley Park manor at that moment, unbeknown to the assembled group...

"Urk!"

The Guard slid to the floor as the slimy hand lowered his body. Another hand opened the door to a deserted office, dragging the body behind. A moment later the guard, apparently having completely recovered from his broken neck, stepped into the corridor and started to walk towards the stairs...

=========

Back at the meeting...

Dawson glanced over, and it was Forbes who spoke up. "Now then, young man." he said, addressing Joe. "You'd better tell us what you're not telling us. It's alright - you're amongst friends...."

Brigadier Dawson was still gaping at what General Wynn had shown them! "This is... that... and Lieutenant... Anyman... this is just..."

"Incredible?" interjected Captain Steed. She was staring intently at Anyman. "The General is, perhaps even by his own admission, too old for field work, but he represents an incredible breadth of experience and skill over decades and many different campaigns. Imagine what would happen were we to combine his talents with the Lieutenants?"

Dawson mopped his brow "I must run tests... take readings... blood samples... this is all... amazing! Astounding! What's the link? What is it, that links you two..." he glanced at Hoskyn. "You... three? Is there anything you can do Hoskyn? Right now, I'm feeling like I've had the best day ever at the races - I'd love for the luck to continue!"

All eyes in the room turned to Joe.

<<The pulse rate of those gathered indicates a level of expectancy and excitement. Only two of those gathered appear to show no real surprise. The General and the Lieutenant.>> said a voice inside Hoskyns' head!

Dawson scrabbled for a pen and notepad. "Please... you must show us!" It was most un-officer like, and Forbes frowned, barking "That's an order soldier!"

"I've seen this before, I've seen this before," Lt. Anyman muttered very quietly to himself over and over again once he saw the minature storm.

All eyes in the room turned to Joe.

"Air Warden? Gale Force? General Weather? Air Marshall? Storm Warden? Gale Winds? Hurricane Winds? Flash Flood? Texas Twister?" he mutteres a bit louder, staring at the old retired general while keeping the man called Joe in his side vision.

"Stormwarden." Unlike the lad, Clive pronounced it as a single word or persons name. More brief snapshots came to him, this time of weather; storms lashing and being stopped; fog banks being generated; one very brief, very tantalising glimpse of lightning bolts raining down around him. "Perhaps an appropriate name, young man. Though for now we have to concern ourselves with an Enemy Agent, somewhere at large near-by and apparantly knowing that we are all...." he stood, flumoxed for an appropriate word to use. This wasn't him! He was a soldier, had been all his life. 'I literally dropped into this, I'm afraid.' That voice inside his head! No. Different this time, conversational, not at all like the other one. But Clive did not want to distract away from business at the moment.

Unsure of what to do and even somewhat afraid, Joe stood up. He spoke as he moved.

"I tried to strike the Doctor, Carter when he went for me. But missed!" Joe smiled ruefully.

"But then this happened." He concentrated not entirely sure if he could repeat it, except now he'd done it once, he knew it was as simple as blinking.

From his hand a blast of cold spun out as if someone had attached a hose to his arm and was blowing Arctic air into the room. Suddenly a drinks cabinet was crystallised with a think layer of ice and frost covering it all. But then Joe looked around again.

"Sir, but that is not all. I hope this is useful because I fear I might be loosing my sanity. I keep hearing voices within me. Voices that do not sound altogether human. One has only spoken once, it warned me about Carter saying the, 'The shadows gather around this one. He means you harm.' Without that warning I think I might have been a goner. Except the second voice, a voice that has been with me since I woke up, continually gives me snippets of information.

For instance moments ago it said,"
And at this point Joe's voice took on a almost metallic tone,

"'<<The pulse rate of those gathered indicates a level of expectancy and excitement. Only two of those gathered appear to show no real surprise. The General and the Lieutenant.>>'".

Joe sat down, somewhat shamefaced. He felt embarrassed, aware that he probably sounded like a lunatic. Except what lunatic can shoot cold streams from his hands? He raised his head looking at the assembled gathering.

"I have no idea how this has happened or what it means. But I came to fight for this country and all free people against the Germans and if I've been given these powers to fight back, then so I'll use them to fight."

"So, he can give someone chillblains or frostbite," Lt. Anyman mutters, forehead creasing in thought.

He then wonders and looks at Joe and the retired General. "Their powers are somewhat similar," he thinks to himself. "Could it be that General Wynn was a bit ... frisky ... when he was younger and this Joe is his bastard son? Maybe one of the scientist will figure that bit out and ask it."

Dawson slumped back into his seat in shock. A silly grin crossed his face, "Tests. We must run tests! STEED!"

"I'm stood right here sir. I'm finding this hard to believe too." she muttered.

Forbes, ever the pragmatist, said "Alright Gentlemen, and Lady. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Needless to say you must not, MUST NOT, under any circumstances use these... abilities outside of this facility until they are fully documented and researched."

'The war will be over by then.' rasped a voice in the head of the three superhumans. 'Tell that fool you want a room full of young, fit and healthy men and women and that Stormwarden will do the rest.'

Forbes, clearly oblivious to the mysterious voice inside the heads of the superhumans, continued "...and then, and ONLY then, can we consider using you for field operations. This is too big, MASSIVE even, to properly comprehend without due consideration to the ramifications of..."

'These mortals have no concept of time.' sighed the inner voice. 'Stormwardens host body, because of it's advanced age and cellular deterioration, will not function properly as a host when you recover your full abilities. Therefore I propose that the Dark Power within him be spread out. He will create an army of superhumans to fight for you, but cannot achieve his full potential with that body. It would explode. Admittedly, that would be quite amusing, but the shadows will darken unopposed if you don't do something to stop the shadow demons...'

Anyman, Hoskyn and Wynn barely heard a word the General was saying. This inner voice seemed louder than the commanding officer of DICE and seemed to be offering some means of creating an army of the allies own!

Dawson stood. "So, that's settled then. We must not delay. It's down to the lab with you three."

Slobotham held up a hand "Beggin' pardon sir, but my boss just woke up from a coma. He ain't goin' nowhere till we been down the pub and got him some good proper nosh in 'im and a few pints o stout."

Dawson turned to the Captain "Steed? If the Sergeant Major proves troublesome, you will arrest him and hold him in detention until he calms down..."

She started to reach for her sidearm, steely gaze locking with that of Slobotham. "Don't even think it lassie. You've no chance!" he spat across the table from where he was rising.

Suddenly things started to get dark and serious in here!

Anyman, Wynn and Hoskyn glanced about. Was it their imagination, or had the lights suddenly dimmed?

Anyman, Wynn and Hoskyn glanced about. Was it their imagination, or had the lights suddenly dimmed?

Joe stood up first, his younger age, lending him the edge when it came to reactions and speed. He was about to protest the need for tests, he had a young nurse he was intent on meeting. But then as the lights dimmed unbidden the thought came to mind. "The Shadows are Darkening!"

Turning to Dawson and the other officers, he spoke quickly. "Does this normally happen?"

Seeing the perplexed faces of the others, he realised before the words were out that this was unusual. A facility like this would no doubt have some sort of back up. But even as the lights dimmed, Joe took a look at Slobotham, this sudden change of expression. Was he just being protective or was there something more going on here?

Joe got ready to act, the first sign that things were going to get worse and he'd freeze everyone to the spot if need be.

"I think our first priority is to see why the lights are going out, I think we might not have seen the last of Dr Carter - I guess he wasn't working alone." Joe said in his American drawl long and slow so the words had a chance to sink in and focus minds, cool tempers before anything silly got out of hand.

OOC:
1. Ok I will use my energy attack to freeze Slobotham's hand and gun if need be.
2. Hopefully we can mention the need for testing later, I guess we are about to have a field test whether we like it or not.
3 And as for what the our companions want with Clive etc, well we'll have to cross that bridge when we come to it.

OOC Will hang fire with a reply and give Kendal a chance to chip in. With regards the comment about Stormwarden not being able to reach full potential with his current aged, form, I never made any secret about the dark power within only being able to reside in a superhuman form - a normal person would die. Even then, there are limits on the superhuman needing a certain level of fitness and durability. However, to counter that, Stormwarden gets to play with a new toy - his own private army, whilst the rest of you gal-avant around with your full powers (eventually - they come back over time, as seen with Nowhere Mans various body shifts...). World War II - The Vanguard Issue #1 (Crossover Stormwarden, Putty, Frostbite) Empty Re: World War II - The Vanguard Issue #1 (Crossover Stormwarden, Putty, Frostbite)

Post  Admin Sat Nov 27 2010, 22:58

OOC Apologies to all for the drop off in my posting - work's been a bit of a pig last couple of days. Got tomorrow to get through (a short day, 11 hours) then 4 days off so back up to speed for me...

The Vanguard
Present: Joe Hoskyn, Gen. Wynn, Lt. Anyman, Hierarchy of DICE (Dawson, Forbes, Steed) and Slobotham, Wynns' batman

Hoskyn pointed, and before Slobotham could reach for his own sidearm he cried out, his hand encased in ice "What in...?" his expression changed completely, from one of rage to utter confusion! He looked about "What's going on? The lights are as bright but it's somehow... darker in here?"

Then the door exploded inwards!

Shards of thick wood bounced from every hard surface as the occupants of the room ran for cover - all save three.

General Wynn stood his ground, calmly tipping the tray with the tea over and raising it to shield himself - a thick wood shard smashed through the tray and stopped about an inch from his eye "By jove..." he muttered, peering around the tray

World War II - The Vanguard Issue #1 (Crossover Stormwarden, Putty, Frostbite) 2zf5qqa

Joe Hoskyn stood there with his clothes in tatters, having taken a veritable shower of razor sharp splinters and spikes thrown at him with incredible force! Expecting to see himself punctured and leaking blood before he keeled over a heartbeat later, Joe is rather surprised to see that his skin, whilst red in some places, hasn't been punctured at all! <<Projection: Host form's epidermis has a subconscious reflex defensive action that hardens the epidermis with approximately 0.00341 of a second reaction time. Initial scan indicates skin molecules are cooled and frozen like ice and compacted together to provide a hard refractive surface. You are not invulnerable, but are extremely durable. Suggest you not test it against large munitions but small arms fire should be tolerable for a considerable length of time...>>

Anyman had a similar defensive mechanism, though rather a different effect. Splinters were embedded in his form, making him resemble a hedgehog! They slowly eased themselves out, dropping harmlessly to the floor without much of a trace save for red marks which faded moments later! He and the others glanced about. Dawson clutched his shoulder where a foot long shard jutted from it, Steed held her leg where three shards jutted from her sleek thigh, and Slobotham had taken a large square chunk to the forehead which bled freely and had him looking about, dazed. Forbes had been the nearest to the door and been blown off his feet, sent head over heels to crash against the far wall, where he lay, unconscious.

"Why won't you people learn to DIE?" hissed the newcomer. Red veins pulsed on the all black body which was naked and human shaped, though possessed none of the sexual organs of a human. It was smooth, sleek, muscled and deadly.

'Vanguard! They have sent an elite warrior to slay you! You would call him 'Ronin' a killer without a master, whilst another term would be 'mercenary' or 'assassin'. Beware! Without the full range of your powers this creature is dangerous indeed!'
shouted the voice in the heads of Hoskyn, Wynn and Anyman.

Stood in the corridor behind this newcomer, what appeared to be an ordinary solider - saved his eyes were red and his skin oozed! The two guards stationed outside the door were slumped, prone. Their skin was darkening, and veins started to show on the surface, red, like that which had infected them, this 'Ronin'...

Dawson cried out "Sound the alarm! We've been invaded by Nazi agents!"

Though they didn't know why, the three left standing in the room were sure this thing and its allies were far, far worse than Nazis...

OOC Initiative and declaring actions time. Heroes 7, Bad Guys 5, 1 frame to y'all. Over to you. Where you can, please descirbe any defensive actions you would be taken were this thing to clobber you - dodge, parry, nothing etc.

Dawson cried out "Sound the alarm! We've been invaded by Nazi agents!"

Though they didn't know why, the three left standing in the room were sure this thing and its allies were far, far worse than Nazis...

"Wow! I didn't even feel that," Lt. Anyman said amazed.

He steps forward and swings at the ... creature in front of him.
ooc: Thinking himself invulnerable, he isn't going to dodge. May he live long enough to find out otherwise!!

OOC: Joe will hold his frame since can't do much with a single frame. But will parry or take the damage - feeling slightly more confident with my toughened skin.

Joe looked thunderstruck. If it wasn't for the darkened figure outside the door, threatening them all and the sound crack of the voice within his head, he'd have been left this way for longer. As it was he took a defensive position, instinctively bringing his hands up as the creature called 'Ronin' entered in.

OOC: Sorry to hear about work Paul. I find it staggering that a family man, with shifts like you have can and does manage as much as you do on this thread as it is mate. So no apologise necessary.

Post  Admin Sun Nov 28 2010, 22:30

The Vanguard
Present: Joe Hoskyn, Gen. Wynn, Lt. Anyman, Hierarchy of DICE (Dawson, Forbes, Steed) and Slobotham, Wynns' batman

The creature flexed a hand. "Such weak flesh. It limits what I can do... still, it should suffice to slay these ... weaklings!"

'This creature suffers from the same ailment as yours - the human shell which gives it form was not specifically allocated to it, and so it must a goodly portion of its power to adapt the host form! However, where it differs is that it cares not if it slays it's host- it will find another!' said the voice inside Hoskyns, Anymans and Wynns heads.

Anyman stepped up, ready to do his bit for King and Country!

OOC 11 rolled, hit. Damage is 8 rolled, +15 damage bonus. The creature stands firm.

With a terrific sounding SMACK! Anymans' fist drives hard against the creatures' jaw! Blood - or at least some dark red ichor of some kind, flew off, spraying into the corridor! The creature appeared to be bracing itself. "Perhaps not so weak. I will enjoy this." it growled.

Anyman stood in the doorway, seeing the two guards that had been stationed outside the door turn steadily darker skinned, like this thing, and red of vein. The other in the corridor, a guard, or what had been a guard, oozed and flowed like wax over the floor! "What... what is happening? I cannot hold myself together!" it cried.

"That is because I used you as a carrier for my spirit, and when I swapped into another hosts body, I drained from you that which I needed! In this case, your life!"
laughed the dark skinned creature.

The melting soldier cried out, then seemed to solidify, harden, and fall like so much crumbled plaster into a pile!

"Now, where were we?" rasped the vile creature in front of Anyman!

OOC Rolled 8, miss.

Anyman ducked a blow from the creature, laughing out loud. Never much of a fighter, more a lover, he'd nonetheless been well trained in the arts of stage fighting, which often required letting blows come very close so as to appear convincing!

OOC Roll 19, Hit. Damage roll of 12, +25 damage, reduced by dividers to 12Htc. He is Knocked back (I assume he was standing firm, but we're still looking at 12 difference so 6m knockback). He takes an extra 1Htc from the impact into the wall and a roll of 20 on the D20 indicates he needs to use a frame to get up. Total damage 13Htc.

As the others in the room watched, the creature growled, sent a screaming uppercut into Anymans' jaw and sent him flying through the air, head over heels, to crash upside down face first into the opposite wall! Plaster flew from the impact, and Anyman crashed into a dishevelled heap!

Steed gasped, ran over to check he was alright. Dawson glanced at the prone Anyman, then at the others "We need to capture this thing! Get information from it!"

"Sod that!" shouted Slobotham and he pulled his gun out, taking aim.

The creature laughed, walked into the room and turned the table over with a crash! Steed and Anyman were against the far wall when the table hurtled towards them! It smashed into several pieces, and with a groan Steed fell to the side, unconscious!

"Is this it? I was promised High princes, in their most vulnerable state! A fit challenge for my prowess! Instead I find mortal weaklings, ready to die with but a gust of wind! Great will be the glory when I tell of my victory against three of the usurped!" laughed the creature.

OOC it's in the room, within swinging distance (2m) of Wynn and Hoskyn. Slobotham is 3m away pointing his gun (and about to fire) whilst Steed and Forbes are down, Dawson wounded. Anyman wasn't harmed by the thrown table, though his pride might have been ruffled a bit from the awkward landing and face slap/slide down the far wall... 4 frames to Wynn and Hoskyn, 2 to Anyman (he uses 1 to get up) and he's just about in swinging range of the bad guy. Bad guy has taken 23Htc, reduced by dividers so far.

"Well, laugh this off," Lt. Anyman snarls, getting back to his feet, angry now for being made to look like he was in a slapstick-style movie!

"Yeah well, where I come from, talk is cheap..." And with that again Joe lifted his hand, almost hesitantly before letting loose with a blast as if his life depended on it.

OOC: We've not talked in crunch terms yet, so do we start allocating dice and what not or just let you do that?
I'll use field manipulation once again! But I'm being a soldier and this being war I won't pull my punches 2d6 HTK. 2d6=11HTK

Out of interest so far I've used the computer and field manipulation, but when the bullet fired, it encountered tough skin - so has that power activated as well?

Joe will attempt to put himself between this creature and his superiors, he's not stupid but he is brave and a little headstrong.

OOC will be updating a couple of times today hopefully. With regards Frostys attack I thought we plumped for Energy attack? I agree that field manipulation is the most useful all round power, but this is war, and he needs most bang for buck... Field manipulation won't take out a tank... but Energy attack might, for instance...

OOC: Oh I think I read the wrong post then, I probably missed the relevant section where we had this discussion. The earlier attacks I thought must be how we were portraying the attack. My bad.

In which case I will roll to attack and do 10d6 dice. Roll to Hit;1d20+3=11 So I am rolling just the d20 and energy attack of +3 I don't know what the DC of Ronin is so I didn't add that. I'll let you roll damage if there is any.

This got me thinking about something so I'll post it in the OOC chat area.

Thanks Paul

OOC That roll misses (Ronin is DC6) by one. Doh.

The Vanguard
Present: Joe Hoskyn, Gen. Wynn, Lt. Anyman, Hierarchy of DICE (Dawson, Forbes, Steed) and Slobotham, Wynns' batman

Slobotham fired at the dark figure.. only to find the bullet disappeared with a 'splut' into the body and with no outward sign of discomfort. "What in the ...?" he spluttered, glancing at his gun. He looked around to the others, saw his friend standing firm in the face of the enemy. Knowing Wynn was fearless - to a fault - he shouted "General! Get down! Bullets aren't stopping this thing! There's no telling what..."

He saw Wynn raise his arms, and all of a sudden a wild, furious wind whipped up in the room, encircling the creature in a tornado of sorts! That definitely affected it! The tornado died away, and flung the creature against the far wall in the corridor with a wet sounding splat! Looking angry, the thing looked more so when Wynn gestured with his hands, calling down a miniature storm and attacking all those in the corridor with tiny lightning bolts! Every lightbulb in the place winked out, then most turned back on when emergency generators kicked in!

The creature, steaming now as rain slewed off it, staggered to its feet. "Your power is great, High Prince. But in here? Under the ground? Wearing THAT form? You are going to die, and it will be an everlasting, eternal doom!"

Joe Hoskyn fired a torrent of pure cold energy, freezing the air in between him and the intruder into a solid thick trunk of ice! And missing, unfortunately - the dark skinned enemy grinned, showing a red maw. Its grin was wiped off its face when it realised the ice beam had missed him, but had interacted with the rain from the mini clouds filling the corridor! The creature suddenly found its new allies - soldiers had been - buried under steel hard ice! It pulled first one leg, then another, free from the icy floor then looked up "That won't stop me! You... umph!"

Anyman stepped in front of the thing, pulling fist back and delivering a jarring shot!

OOC 17, hit. 21Htc, reduced by dividers. The thing stands firm again.

"Now, you're just making me angry!" it hissed!

OOC Initiative 10, Heroes, 8 bad guy. 1 frame again. Frostbite has used 10/15 energy, 5 remaining. I don't think we specified what special effect he had did we? High power, quick blast or reduced dividers are the ones to pick from in my opinion - I'll leave that to you Dave (Frostbite)

Wynn shouted out "Get the devil out of the way, blast you!" to Anyman. "I can't see a blasted thing, man!"

Inside his head the voice pulsed 'The woman lying prone on the floor. She is young, healthy, in excellent physical shape! Place your hand on her forehead and concentrate on joining molecular strands together...'

Wyn scowled. "What in blazes?!?! Joining molecular... this bloody voice in my head is making it spin!" He glanced down at Steed. Suddenly he reeled, causing Slobotham to shout out "General!" He moved to support his friend. "I'm... alright slobbie... just... when I see the young lady on the floor there, it's as if she's a jigsaw and... and missing a few pieces. Pieces I can provide! What in heavens name is happening to me!"

Slobotham looked at his oldest friend, mentor, and father figure. "I've no idea sir, but whatever you did before to that damned thing was amazing! Do it again!" he watched as Wynn gently moved to kneel beside the fallen Captain and place a hand on her forehead...

Dawson watched on, in pain from his wound and amazed at what he was seeing...

OOC 1 frame to Anyman and Frostbite. Wynn uses his to move to Steeds side and place his hand on her forehead.

OOC 1 frame to Anyman and Frostbite. Wynn uses his to move to Steeds side and place his hand on her forehead.

Joe looked on, amazed at what he could do, but he didn't have time to fire again before the thing was upon him.

OOC: Ok I will hold my frame, but for future reference I think I'll take quick blast, although higher WC and lower dividers all sound good to ;-).

I will try and use what I can around me to auto parry and defend myself (since I know, even if Joe doesn't) that my energy is limited. And then use the remaining energy to attack if I can.

To hit: 1d20+3+6=20 Damage 3htk/2htc = 3d6=[5, 3, 4]12HTK, 2d6=[1, 2]3HTC, After that I think I go for fist foot, but I'll wait and see what the others do.
