Game Introduction Egtpuq

Hi, this forum is for a play by post game using the Squadron UK/Golden Heroes game rules. Initially, I've invited the members of two long time Golden Heroes gaming groups (of which I'm a member) to join in the game, and will open up player slots should they become available. Hopefully I'll know within the week exact numbers, and how many extra players I can invite.

Squadron UK can be downloaded free in the 'Lite' version from RPGnow. There is also the authors (Simon Burley) website at http://squadronuk.co.uk/game_4.html for more information.

Anyone familiar with Marvels 'Civil War' event of last year (2008) will have a good idea of what the basic game premise is about.

The game is set in Britain in the near future, around 10 years or so, and anti metahuman hysteria requires drastic measures. A prominent superhero, Adjutant, unmasks and reveals his identity to the world, and aligns himself with a British Government agency to control and regulate metahuman activities. Anyone not registered and fighting crime will be treated the same as criminals and arrested, or at least that's the plan.

The players will take the role of new superheroes having just discovered their powers and presented with the dilemma on whether to register or not. On the one hand, registration means the public are more likely to trust you, you are backed to the hilt by the law and are recompensed for your service and time to the British people.

On the other hand, registered heroes have already seen their friends and families targeted, they may have to go up against former colleagues and allies who are unregistered, and technically outlaws, and the villains will always have a pretty good idea on where to find you any time they fancy causing mischief. You'll be recognised in the street, when not in costume you'll be sat in long boring briefings and be expected to smile for the cameras, 24/7. In other words, your life will no longer be your own.

Game Introduction Empty Re: Game Introduction

As of this date ( Tuesday, 11 May 2010 ) the game is as follows:

Supervillains, having been thwarted by the Vanguard (the players’ characters) have had to move forward their insidious plan. They succeed anyway, and go into the past to change the course of history, helping the Nazis win World War II! The Vanguard are no ordinary heroes however, and their own, special ‘Dark Power’ (a sentient demon/entity that empowers the heroes to levels that make them amongst the most powerful heroes on Earth!) has protected them from the time shift. With the three Vanguard trapped in a change reality where the Nazis rule Europe, they set out to restore things as they are, and make contact with the resistance movement. A plan is formed, and half of them (Darkshadow and Frostbite) head to a Nazi fortress to access their computer systems and gain vital information needed to free a captive from the Nazis’ detention camps. This man, the White Warlock, was the most powerful practitioner of magic in the heroes’ reality. Here, he is a madman, mostly deranged, but may yet have the key to sending the heroes back in time. Unfortunately the camp is very heavily guarded, not least by Adjutant, a hero in the Vanguards own reality, a Nazi super agent in this. He, alone, stands head and shoulders above all other Superhumans in Europe.

The Vanguard have no hope of stopping him in a direct confrontation, but a member of the resistance (James Caldwell, known as Nowhere Man in the Vanguards’ reality, and mentor to our heroes – until he was killed) has a plan and a gadget to help, if he can get the information he needs! Unfortunately the Vanguard is betrayed and they walk into a trap! Meanwhile another of the Vanguard, Stormwarden, sets into motion a weather front set to blanket the detention camp and surrounding area with a thick fog on the planned day of their raid. Even as he’s doing that, the authorities raid the rebel camp, causing the rebels to flee. Stormwarden, with Lionheart, a hero from the future (who died in the Vanguards own reality, some 10 years ago) are currently fighting in the skies over London against gunships, en route to helping Frostbite and Darkshadow. Can they defeat their pursuers and help their friends in time?

And, with the odds against the heroes, and the light of freedom slowly fading out, who at this late stage might yet rise to help the Vanguard restore the natural way of things?
