FUN COVERS AND COMICS

Airboy is a pretty interesting character. He is a fighter pilot hero not a superhero or crimefighter per se. He starts off as a young boy and slowly ages with the series. He is 15 when he meet Valkyrie, who is first a foe then a frenemy and then a love interest. His stories are pretty graphic as the middle cover which is his first appearance shows. They also run from action to horror and to sci-fi after the war. There are some allegorical tales as well and a few fantasy stories thrown into the mix. I've read maybe a dozen of these books and mostly enjoyed all of them.




First apperance.

Airboy was revived in the 1980s by Eclipse Comics, who mostly did a good job on him and some of the old characters from the original Air Fighters and Airboy comics. Except this was Airboy's son whose adventures we followed and he looked just like his dad. Valkyrie had been trapped in the Air Tomb by Misery and was later freed so she remained young and became Airboy Jr's love interest. A more modern and somewhat more political then the original series. Great artwork too.

Airboy's plane was called Birdie, even though it had batwing shaped wings.  It flew by flapping said wings.  Later he got a propeller and later still a jet engine.  Because it flapped it's wings, it was able to turn tighter than any other plane.  The landing gear could be used to grab another plane it was dogfighting with.  Airboy also has a radio remote control device to control Birdie from a distance. Birdie got bigger as it was improved until it became a two-seater when Airboy added a jet engine.

Airboy was one of the world's best pilots. He is highly skilled with firearms, his fists and with swords.
