The Vanguard

PLACEHOLDER, ALWAYS A WORK IN PROGRESS!

The Vanguard are a constantly changing group of superheroes led by the superhero Frostbite. They have had a number of different rosters over the years and gone through too many adventures and situations to easily list! The most powerful member was Lionheart but at one point the other members were granted cosmic powers to fight against extradimensional demons and while they had those powers they were practically unbeatable.

Nowadays they are based in Britain at one of the mansions/grounds owned by Justin St Johns, the former superhero known as Morningstar and now special adviser to the government on metahuman affairs. The team is bankrolled by St Johns who is a billionaire and the science/technology side of things is handled by the Alien scientist Pierre Wilgommen otherwise known as Wandafar who used to be a member of the Executive, a Government sponsored superhero group from the early 2000s (and portrayed in the Golden Heroes Yahoo Group play by post game The Executive).

Frostbite has been more or less the only constant and currently there is a hop in/out policy where heroes can team up for a mission or two then move on. The group has long time friends and allies who do this including Yeoman, Nowhere Man, Haunt, Lionheart and others.

Catherine Stowe is a former superheroine who is a skilled combatant/pilot and flies the Vanguard Flyer, a jet aircraft capable of stealth and supersonic speeds.

Jeeves is a holographic Butler generated by the house computer and able to use a form of telekinesis to physically interact with its environment.

The UKChampions are a state tolerated but otherwise independent superhero group which was on the state side of forcing all superhumans (good and bad) to register their identity and abilities with the Government. That didn't end well with many superheroes forced underground or to become outlaws and the public/press rallied with them, against the Government and the UKChampions. Lead by the superhero Albert Watkins more commonly known as ADJUTANT the team is now split into regional sub teams to tackle threats all over the United Kingdom. They are wealthy, independently funded and have a number of members who are 'media darlings'. Their chequered history includes a number of high profile successes and failures. The UKChampions tend to succeed big or fail disastrously and it's a constant struggle to pacify the media/government when a town or city is smashed up in a battle. The UKC currently has a neutral-good relationship with the Vanguard after Frostbite and others worked with them to good effect recently. Many consider themselves above smaller groups like the Vanguard and this arrogance shines through in their dealings with independent heroes too.

The Holy Grail, legendary cup from Authurian stories, has several times played an important part with foes (and sometimes friends) including Morgana Le Fay, Elesieth the Elven Queen and others in the magical land of Albion, accessed by using magic to step through the stone circle at Stonehenge.

OOC More as I dig through the long and varied history (going back to 2009!) of the Vanguard! The stats will be split into Golden Heroes and DC Heroes games as the campaign was switched to a new rules set to cover cosmic powered gaming.

HISTORY...

The original premise of the game as posted in October 2009... (we originally used a forum called Endless Flight which changed to RPG Beat and suffered a number of resets/changes/downtime so we moved to the current home which has served without issue for over a decade).

Basic premise - The game is set in Britain in 10 years time or so, superheroes are either registered and work for the government, or outlaws.

The villains are running wild, some cities are virtual war zones and people fear to walk the streets. You have been given powers from a mysterious source, and must master them and yourself in order to save the land of Britain before it descends into total anarchy! Everyone is against you, save for your fellow outlaws. Will the true hero - one that battles against overwhelming adversity no matter the personal cost - prevail, or will darkness fall across the land?

The shadows are darkening.

The heroes are the only light that shines against eternal night...
