I had never heard of this guy/ghost/creature until looking for early Nick Carter covers and found some covers concerning him.

Apparently the biggest common denominator for the guy is he can leap great distances, hence his name, though some describe him as a monster or beast man, some as a devil and some as a man disguised. Apparently he kept making appearances for around 75 years! Starting in the 1830s and ending around 1905 or so.
Wonder if anyone ever made a movie about his exploits? He would have been a natural for Hammer Films back in the 50s and 60s.
