Re: Kid Kinetic issue #1 - Junk food is great!
With shaking hands and on wobbly legs Kid Kinetic races about, finds a bucket easily enough and fills it with water from an outside hose...
Agitating his hands at super speed he soon heats them up (OOC I have no idea of the APs of boiling water. I'm guessing... four or five for full body immersion and 2 or 3 for getting your hands burned by a kettle or the like? *shrug*) and plunges them into the bucket. It takes a number of attempts and soon the water is boiling... but Kid Kinetic feels faint and giddy!
OOC ok, let's see how we'll do this. I'd suggest a Will vs Will check and the positive RAPs reveal how many APs he gets to retain of each power. So check for each power, lose all APs except for the RAPs from the will check. If you can suggest something else that works we can try that. For now here are the results...
LOSS ALL POWERS unless he consumes the 10k calories... He's consumed nothing at this point so all powers are 0 unless the results go his way...
Superspeed!
Will check 4 + Roll(2d12)+0: 8,6,+0 Total:14 (18) vs
Will 4 + Roll(2d12)+0: 3,1,+0 Total:4 (8)
+4EV (to 8 will) vs RV4 = 4 RAPs
Superspeed drops to 4 APs
Systemic Antidote
Will 4 + Roll(2d12)+0: 12,6,+0 Total:18 (22) vs
Will 4 + Roll(2d12)+0: 6,3,+0 Total:9 (13)
+4 EV (to 8) vs Rv4 = 4
Systemic Antidote also drops to 4APs
Regeneration
Will 4 + Roll(2d12)+0: 5,9,+0 Total:14 (18) vs
Will 4 + Roll(2d12)+0: 10,6,+0 Total:16 (20) FAILED
Regeneration drops to zero!
Kid Kinetic feels his speed slow, then it gets harder to generate sufficient heat in his hands to keep the water boiling! Just... a bit... longer!
"What's that from the barn?" came a voice from outside. "I dunno. Check it out. Looks like smoke or... steam?"
The youngster started, scooped up some eggs and looked about. Someone was coming into the barn!
OOC oh yeah, by the way...
10k Calories is a LOT of eggs!

"All this speed yet there never enough time to sit down and enjoy a meal" laments Kid Kinetic. KK hides in a pile of hay.

OOC Unskilled hiding attempt.
Guy coming into barn Int 3 + Roll(2d12)+0: 5,8,+0 Total:13 (16) vs
Dex 9 - 4 (unskilled) + Roll(2d12)+0: 11,1,+0 Total:12 (17)
SUCCESS
"Huh. Coulda sworn I saw or heard somethin' " muttered the man walking about the barn with an Uzi!
OOC Perception check Int 3 + Roll(2d12)+0: 7,11,+0 Total:18 (21) vs
OV3 + Roll(2d12)+0: 9,6,+0 Total:15 (18)
+2 EV (to will 4) vs RV3 = 1 RAPs
"What the heck? Who's been... warm water?" he said as he knelt down feeling the side of the bucket and yelping as he near scolded his hand! He scooped the bucket up by its handle, gave one look about and marched out back to the farmhouse.
It wouldn't be long before his buddies came back!
OOC Do you want to stat up your supporting cast of super friends or shall I? In case they make an appearance, though I'm sure they'll appear in future episodes anyway...

Kid Kinetic will try to way lay the goon with the uzi while he is preoccupied with the bucket.
OOC. Hadn't KK already consumed some calories for the day? The first post stated his trip to the pizza parlor was going to his fourth dinner.
You may stat his teammates as I do not remember them clearly after 30 years.

Re: Kid Kinetic issue #1 - Junk food is great!
OOC I assume KK will have eaten little and often (so four times already) like the occasional Hot Dog or Burger and the Pizza was to be a big chunk of the calories he needs across the course of the day. Bear in mind that Sumo wrestlers eat about 6000 calories a day so that would be a bunch of meals spread over the day in between exercise etc. With Kid Kinetic using his powers I'd suggest he burns through his bodies calories faster as a result otherwise he wouldn't really have much of a problem and he'd eat 10k calories spread over the course of the day with breakfast, lunch evening meal and a bunch of meals in between. It's something we can define at some point with a better way of applying his weakness instead of random rolls.
I'll stat the team mates up and we can tweak as required.
Kid Kinetic may be struggling with his speed but he didn't need much in the way of super speed to lay out this goon!
He stepped up behind the armed man and tapped him on the shoulder to deliver a crashing right hook when the guy turns round!
OOC shouldn't be a problem. KK Dex 9 + Martial Artist extra dice + Roll(4d12)+0: 4,8,8,9,+0 Total:16 DOUBLE plus Roll(2d12)+0: 6,4,+0 Total:26 (35) vs
Goon Dex 3 + Roll(2d12)+0: 11,7,+0 Total:21
+5EV (to 10) vs RV3 = 7 RAPs! And knockback is 5 - weight (3 Aps)= 2 aps
Pow! the guy goes flying and thuds against the wall of the barn before landing in hay. A quick check over. He would be ok. The guy was pretty big and solid and Kid Kinetic was thankful that he'd not inflicted any lasting damage.
Taking the time to eat the eggs he waited a few moments and relaxed as his hands stopped trembling. His body metabolised at an incredible rate and made short work of the eggs though some of them were runny and he'd have a devil of a time getting it out of his costume! The eggs would sustain him for a while but the thought of the pizza with everything on made him drool.
OOC All powers are restored to normal level. For now.
Before then he had another problem. Those guys would soon be in to look for their friend. More worrying than any of this was wear these guys got that cannon and the knockout gas. Someone was supplying them obviously, someone with smarts and no moral compass. He could flatten all these guys and call the cops but there wouldn't be a lot of point if these guys or others were back on the streets with high tech weapons!
So he had a choice to make. He still wanted food and his friends needed checking on... or he could take on these guys and see where the trail led to...

Kid Kinetic will take out the clip and toss it away. Time to search this guy and see who he is dealing with.

Popping the clip and throwing it somewhere in the barn Kid Kinetic quickly frisked the man.
He got a drivers license, name Robert Jones, nothing else of interest except... dog tags. So he was army, or ex army at least.
Thinking on what had happened so far Kid Kinetic began to piece some things together.
OOC Int check Int 5 + Roll(2d12)+0: 6,4,+0 Total:10 (15) vs
OV3 + Roll(2d12)+0: 5,7,+0 Total:12 (15)
EV +0 Will 4 vs RV3=1 RAP
Someone was hiring ex military personnel, kitting them out with high tech equipment then sending them out to commit crimes.
The question was ... who?
He heard movement outside. Fire extinguishers going off and shouted voices! They would be in here soon with guns. As far as he knew Kid Kinetic was more resistant to firearms than an ordinary person but a lucky shot could still hurt. He did heal much faster though and breaks and bruises were never a problem for long. Mind you he couldn't heal from being dead and if they had another of those crazy vibration guns in the house... or worse, something else even more powerful... then he might be in trouble if someone came through that door with it! Time to make a choice! Stay and fight or run off, watch from a distance or go revive his friends for backup!

It is getting a little too hot. Kid Kinetic will take the ID and dog tags and head back to the Academy. Maybe his Dad's resources can be used to unravel this mystery.

Re: Kid Kinetic issue #1 - Junk food is great!
Grabbing the ID and Dogtags Kid Kinetic took the opportunity to race off!
In moments he was up to top speed and miles away, and sped across the landscape at near the speed of sound! he'd learned to run at something less than his maximum speed so as to protect ear drums and windows!
Even though he could run at almost top speed it still took nearly five minutes to get back to the estate where called home. A press of a hand and scan with retinal scan allowed the main gates to open. Had he gone over the wall various defences would have kicked in and blaring alarms would ring around the estate and in the great house that he called home.
At speed he raced around to the living quarters used by the older students and changed into his civilian clothes stashed in his 'secret place' which was a false wall operated by his thumbprint. Not all of the kids were aware of the super heroics undertaken by other members of the academy and Father had discouraged talking about it because it would get out and the academy would become a target!
Father. What would he say about...
Joe... and Tim! Ohmigod! He'd left them at the pizza place! Unconscious!
"Ryan!" called a voice and the young speedster turned to see Ian jogging to a halt nearby. he'd worked up a sweat and had a very athletic form, working hard to achieve what some of the others got naturally as a result of their powers. His ability to transmute materials from one to another made him incredibly powerful, but like Ryan he was still learning to use his powers. His codename of 'Alchemist' still needed work but being able to transmute anything - even air - into steel or ... diamond... or... well, just about anything... made him incredibly versatile. Not fast though. Ryan suppressed a grin.
"Where ya been? Thought you were out to buy clothes and- knowing you - food. Are the others still out shopping?" asked Ian. He towelled himself off and did some stretches. "Not many about today. Father mentioned about the six of us having a 'family meeting' tomorrow." That was the code for a super hero training session in the lower basement levels of the mansion, away from the other students. "Make sure you're about for that." he said as he whipped the towel over his shoulder and was about to jog off.

"I think they are... uh. . taking a breather." Ian could be so judgemental and a bit of a scold. "I will see you at the meeting. I am going to go grab a snack. Want anything?" But KK was already at a sprint before Ian could answer. "I really could go for a pizza. Let's hope the guys are awake and have put in an order!"

Re: Kid Kinetic issue #1 - Junk food is great!
OOC I've come up with a write up for 'Mimic Lad' aka Joe Robinson (?) Ryans best friend and trainee of the New Knights. Based on 450HP (as all the New Knights will be) it was real tricky to come up with things without a) a loss all and b) that burnout. Mind you I love catastrophic burnouts on everything as it really throws the cat among the pigeons and reflects the 'things are going great but can go wrong at any moment' feel that sometimes crops up in comics. Usually Spiderman.
See what you think. If you feel it's too overpowered it can be tweaked and amended as required - this is your game/story/Kid Kinetic is the star after all!
Ryan raced off before Ian could answer and sped back to the pizza place.
A few minutes later he was back in town and breathed a sigh of relief as people were moving about gingerly and rubbing their heads. Police were taping off the street and paramedics were dealing with minor injuries such as head bumps and fender benders.
He started for the pizza parlour when a cop in uniform called over. "Hey, Kid! Get away from here! This is a crime scene! Unless you know something..."

OOC Also had a go at writing up 'Mentallica'. Gave him Personality Transfer and higher Will/Powers then dropped em to give telepathy and telekinesis albeit at lower aps. As usual, let me know if too power/not quite right etc.
Re: Kid Kinetic issue #1 - Junk food is great!
"Um, yeah. I saw them pile into a SUV and head that way. And one of them said something about a farm."
Ryan tries to reach out to Tim with his mind. Let's hope Mento is listening.
OOC The stats for Joe and Tim look great.

Re: Kid Kinetic issue #1 - Junk food is great!
'Ryan?' came a voice inside Kid Kinetics head. Mento!
'What happened? There was gas... then everything went dark! The police are questioning us and we're being checked over. Here. No, to your left...'
Ryan turned and saw Tim and Joe being treated by paramedics. Tim was in his wheelchair but was sat up and seemed none the worse for wear. Joe was having his head treated for a cut he must have sustained while keeling over from the gas.
Explaining that his foster brothers were being treated and he needed to see if they were ok, the Policeman takes Ryan's name and address/contact number and waves him through the tape, warning him not to touch anything.
The paramedic was just finishing up on Joe and the trio exchanged hugs.
"What happened man?" asked Joe. "One thing, we're waiting for a pizza, after the burger, donuts, ice cream and you've already had breakfast... the next... there's green smoke and everything goes dark! Did you get affected too? Are you ok?"

"It was some goons that were robbing a store. They were using gas grenades but my body's metabolism neutralized the effects. They also had some sort of sonic cannon doohickey. I chased them a few miles to their hideout but there were too many of them. I did snag these off one of them <holds out dog tags and id> I thought maybe Dad could look into them. Saaaaay, are you going to eat those bread sticks?" [Munch munch]

Joe and Tim rolled their eyes as a pack of bread sticks was dispatched practically instantly.
"We need to get to the bottom of this! Find out who they were, if they plan to strike again and where they got those gizmos! Knock out gas will allow them to walk into anywhere and help themselves to the cash registers!" exclaimed Tim.
Joe frowned. "They took us out once. Only Ryan's crazy appetite and need to feed saved him. Hmm. That rhymes."
"We have a choice then. Go back to father, get the rest of the team together and check out this place... or maybe watch and follow them. No good stopping just a bunch of random goons when whoever is behind this can just equip some more. All those gizmos cost money and these guys will have to nab a fair bit of stuff to break even never mind make a profit. That means they need cash. If the jewellery store is on lockdown and crawling with cops, where else will be... the Casino! There must be mountains of cash there! I'd bet Ryan's last slice of pizza that's where they go next!"
Joe laughed "Ryan wouldn't bet ANY slice of pizza Tim!"
Mento laughed with that and turned. "Well, to get to the bottom of the mystery we have a few choices to make. Involve Father and the others, or go it alone?"

"I do not think it wise to go it alone. We should definitely involve Dad." Ryan shuddered at the thought of his father's temper.

Re: Kid Kinetic issue #1 - Junk food is great!
All three teenagers lost their smiles at the thought of Father being involved.
"Best get back and speak to the old man." said Joe.
The cops were happy with the youngsters statements and having gotten the all clear - along with a somewhat baffled expression at the recovery of the youngsters from the paramedics whilst everyone else seemed woozy - they were allowed to leave and caught the bus home. Another walk down a mile long lane that led to the country estate and their implanted ID chip in their hand granted access, along with voice and retinal scans. father took security seriously, and the security guards with dogs who patrolled the grounds gave a wave to the familiar faces, holding the dogs back from bounding over playfully.
Rachel and Samantha happened by the lobby and Ryans tongue immediately started to swell in the presence of the pretty redhead. Generally he'd melt into a clumsy buffoon who couldn't get his words out in front of his friend and adopted sibling. This time it would be different! He'd be confident and... uhhh... those green eyes, upturned nose, full lips, freckles...
Mummble...
"Hi guys!" said Rachel. "Where have you been? I thought you were shopping for clothes! Did you get waylaid? For food, by any chance?" she asked with a raised eyebrow at Ryan.
"Hey guys. Hi Ryan." said Samantha with a beaming smile.

OOC by the way, something niggle me about my last post. Maybe Ryan is confident and doesn't mumble or whatever around girls. That's fine, just ignore what I put. I interpreted the 'crush' as something that wasn't a relationship yet and figured if they'd know each other for a while it might be one of those will they/won't they style things that tv shows drag out.
If I've got the wrong end of the stick feel free to rewrite the meeting up with the ladies scene.

" Yeah, we grabbed a bite. We got something for you both too." Ryan handed them a bag of wrappers and empty take out containers. "But we uh..hit a bunch of red lights", he said sheepishly. "Anyway, we gotta go talk to Dad. See you later."
OOC Really just an innocent schoolboy crush.

Re: Kid Kinetic issue #1 - Junk food is great!
The Study was a large space, much like a library in style and scope. The walls were lined with books on a multitude of subjects, there were seating areas scattered about with tables and comfy leather couches the focal point was the head of the room with a gran wall window behind looking onto the estate.
There was no time to admire the view though as the man sat behind a huge wide oak and leather chest required the boys full attention.
The opulent surroundings would rival any mansion in the world but right now the plush carpet demanded the attention of the eyes of the youngsters as they stood to attention.
'Father' sat behind the desk reading a computer tablet which seemed oddly out of place here. He looked up, scanning the three faces.
"Care to explain what happened this morning gentlemen, and why the team... why I... found out about it through monitoring the local news? A gas attack in the town? People injured, gun fire, a number of stores robbed? CCTV picked up, and I quote 'a costumed blur'. Two of you were rendered unconscious whilst the third decided to tackle the gang on his own?" he swivelled in his chair. The man was somewhere in his fifties but still in a terrific athletic shape. His mind, however, was his keenest weapon. That and the steely eyed gaze which he turned on Ryan. "Explain. Omit nothing." he stated.

Ryan gulped and begin detailing his exploits that afternoon. His nerves got the best of him and he began talking faster and faster. Soon his voice a nearly incomprehensible staccato burst. It was as if the words were just spilling out in a bizarre stream of consciousness performance. "WewereatthepizzaparlorwhenIsmelledsomethingfunnyeveryonefellasleepexceptmeIchangedintomysupersuitandthen...."

Re: Kid Kinetic issue #1 - Junk food is great!
With collective eye rolling in the room save for the steely eyed gaze of Father, a hand signalled for Ryan to clam up.
Tim explained about his friends' experiences at a more measured pace and father nodded.
"I have made my own investigations into this matter in the short time I have had my attention drawn to it." said Father, standing to pace about near the window, hands folded behind his back and gaze stern as he turned it on the young men.
"The house you followed them to was rented out by a company known as Holmes Enterprises. Not surprisingly, that is a dummy corporation with a registered office in Seattle and a rented office there. Little has shown up on the company search. I suspect it is a shell corp, and that the office will be empty. However it remains a lead to pursue."
"The technology utilised by the robbers is the biggest worry. Knockout gas virulent enough to affect superhumans is a worry but not as much as that 'Vibe' cannon which can destroy bulletproof glass."
"No doubt right now that house is being evacuated. It may already be vacated. The police have been alerted and will no doubt contaminate the crime scene but we may find something they missed."
Tim glance at Ryan and Joe then asked "Ummm how did you know about the house sir? Did you track Ryan?"
Father cast his stern gaze over all of them. "Let's be clear on something. We live in a world where superhumans are relatively commonplace. Not only that, Europe and much of Asia has allied themselves to an Alien force which may look benevolent on the outside but be rest assured, has its own agenda. I know people... I have... contacts that suggest there is no happy ending if ADVENT manage to persuade the American people that allying themselves to the Alien 'visitors'. It will mean the end to our way of life. Concentration camps, experimentation, torture and people simply going missing. It's been tried before and you may dismiss it as paranoia but I can assure you the threat is real."
"You may have superhuman abilities but you are not invincible. Two of you could have died this morning and another..." he looked at Ryan "Risked his life to solve the mess on his own. Admirable, but foolish." He let that hang before continuing. "My role is to train you, protect you and prepare you for life beyond these walls. I had a contingency plan in place for rescue but thankfully it was not needed. The less you know of the preparations I have made the better. Until you leave this place and are ready for the challenges of life outside these walls, you remain my responsibility and it is one I take with the utmost seriousness. Now, eat, clean up, rest. Tonight you will be divided into two teams."
He rested against the solid oak desk and looked each teenager in the eye. "Seattle and this bogus company is one lead that needs checking out. The other is the house. It is a crime scene and may be watched but the police are underfunded, over stretched and quite frankly not equipped to deal with what they may be about to face."
"And what is that sir?" asked Joe.
Father turned to him "A crime spree turning ordinary people into superhumans with the aid of technology supplied by an individual or organisation that plans to skim off the top of every take and elevate themselves to 'Crime Boss' level and from there...?" he shrugged, spreading his hands. "We need to nip this in the bud. NOW."
OOC Any special preparations and you have a choice of locations to check out - the farmhouse or the address in Seattle.

OOC: The only special preparations would be researching the dog tags KK took from the goon. Ryan has unfinished business at the farmhouse.

Re: Kid Kinetic issue #1 - Junk food is great!
OOC you probably know better than me if there is a database to look up current or past served dog tags on the internet. There is one for the years 1938-46 but not one after that unless my internet searches have failed abysmally.
Ryan still had the dogtags and needed to find out who the guy was to whom they'd belonged to and how he'd gotten involved in the procurement of high tech weapons.
As Ryan sat at a terminal Tim wheeled in. "Penny for your thoughts? I'll be going to the farmhouse, though obviously I'll have to wait in the car until the others check the place out first." he said, sighing. "Joe wants payback so he's opting for the address in Seattle. He reckons the bad guys will have skedaddled and I'm inclined to agree. The Police will consider it a crime scene and father not only wants to check the place for clues but to make sure you... ah... haven't left anything to link to this place."
He sighed then added "Ryan we're a team here. We back each other up, we fight alongside, we... watch out for each other. But if you go racing off on your own..."
he spread his hands in a shrug "I'm just worried that one day you'll charge into something you can't outrun and we'll lose you. You're my step brother, and my friend. I care about you we ALL care about you, and each other." He paused and gave a sly grin "And maybe I'm a little jealous about you punching bad guys in the mouth."
He glanced at the dog tags. "Hmm. You'll need to get army records from somewhere to find out who they belong to. Have you tried the Pentagon?" he laughed.
OOC I assume the Pentagon or Army HQ or similar would be the place in the United States. If you don't know then that's fine, I'll make up a central office for army records (COFAR) or something
