This is an experiment! The idea is to try out a few role playings systems and find one that might be better suited to play by post for the main Vanguard game.

The game itself will be a series of unlinked adventures set in the years covering World War II, and whilst events in the main game might be referenced, these adventures and characters will generally not interact with the Vanguard characters and game. Personally, I think the best part of the Golden Heroes game is the way combat works - other games bog down with round by round action posting, whereas the Golden Heroes game seems to get that part right.

I propose to try out the DC Heroes RPG (2nd and 3rd edition of the game) which has long been out of print but still has an active following on the internet. Players are free to come and go with characters and play as they please in this experiment, with no commitment to stay with it or continue. More information later. The Vanguard game is, and always will be however, my priority, so whilst the Lore Knights side game will see some flurry of posting every now and again, it will not detract from the Vanguard game.

Hi there guys

Just wondered if any of you have ever seen or tried Marvel Universe. It's a great little game slightly let down by the editing of the rules but a great game never the less.

I only mention it as you mentioned games that were good for PBEM. this uses stones rather than dice so basically you place stones into actions to try and beat a difficulty number (ok a very basic description)

Funny you should mention it... I ran MURPG games for years on the main proboards site before real life and burn out meant I had to give something up, and gaming was it (for a year or two - I couldn't stay away!). The game system was easy to track but I felt it missed the random element - so I've started writing a variant that uses a D10 for every stone you use, with +7 per modifier stone. I planned to use the old FASERIP ranks and numbers for task resolution, so incredible (40), Amazing (50) and so on. Plan was to have 10s explode and 1s take away an exploding die. Hero points would allow extra (free) dice to be rolled for those times when you need to succeed. With 5 strength Spiderman could in theory roll 50 (or more with exploding dice, using hero points etc) and lift 50 tons (Amazing rank) but in reality he'd be hard pushed to lift his maximum of 10 tons (40 rank) needing an 8 or more on every die.

Still in the planning stages, but we'll see how the DC game goes and I'll stick it on the list of games to try out (the purpose of the Lore Knights game. If nothing else, it's a nice diversion as we've been playing Golden Heroes for years).

I miss the MURPG boards, but am happy here now - feels like home Smile Plus dark grey and brown gets a bit depressing after a while Very Happy

I played on one of the main MURPG boards for a few years too but got fed up with one of the GM's there that just wanted to argue with his players so left.

I even played in a successful game of Torchwood using the rules.... they are quite versitile

I don't remember arguing with any of my players so it can't have been me! I was running quite a few games under the name T0mahawk if I remember right. Years before that it was under Meetgrinder but I lost all the details of that when the house was burgled and I had to change everything as all my personal details, banking, email, the lot, was on the laptop that got pinched Sad Been a few years since I was on there though I must admit... I do recall seeing some weird and wonderful games on there, and most of the time as far as rules were concerned I 'hand waved' stuff because I was more interested in role rather than roll playing.
