"Jenson!" barked the Sergeant Major. Steve looked up where he sat nervously in a line with other young men in the boxer shorts. Another medical! How many more? He'd been for two this morning! The training, the written tests, climbing over obstacle courses... Over the last few weeks since he'd volunteered - or at least been offered a place in the 'special operations executive' (Or SOE for short) it seemed the authorities had dug into every facet of his existence. Now things were getting tiresome. He wanted to do his part! Be someone! Fight for king and Country!

Led into a dimly lit room, he smelt pipe smoke and looked about. The office was lined with books on the shelves, nice carpets, sumptuous leather chairs. "Take a seat." said the old man sat at the desk. Another man was sat off to the side. Both were Generals. One was General Forbes, who he'd met a number of times. The other man, so the desk placard said, was General Wynn.

"I'll cut to the chase young man. You, and others, have been carefully selected through a rigorous process of elimination to serve your country in a way no other soldier could. You will, essentially, be leaving your life behind. You will need to keep the strictest secrecy - spies are everywhere. If they find out who you are, your friends, relatives, work associates will all be in the gravest of dangers. You will wear a mask, and go by a codename. The people of the free world will look up to you as a hero, and by jove, son, you WILL be a hero the likes of which no one has seen before! You will join an elite band of operatives known as the Vanguard. Time is running out. We need young men and women like you to be the light in the darkness as ... believe me, the darkest of days ARE coming!"

Steve Jenson was nervous, sweat rolled down his face, under his arms. Glancing from one man to another, he heard the next question. "Are you ready to do your duty son?"

Little did he know it then, but his days of being plain Steve Jenson, soldier, were nearly over. For the world would come to know him as...

Steve Jenson was nervous, sweat rolled down his face, under his arms. Glancing from one man to another, he heard the next question. "Are you ready to do your duty son?"

"I am sir, for king and country" Steve said bracing to attention saluting the general.

He felt honnored that his years of personnal sacrifices and hard work had finaly paid off and he could show his country no the world that he was made of stern stuff. Yet who were these others, would he be working with them or under them. This must be truly under the radar for he had never worn a mask before.

"So whats the next step then sir?" Steve asked looking form general to general.

ooc: wow I almost feel like saluting for real. Its quite emotional *sniff* the birth of a new hero *sniff*
Is it ok what I put Im still trying to find my feet

Codename: Silver Sentinel
alias Steve Jenson

OOC It's all good Smile Carry on as you are... as for what happens to Steve...

The General (Wynn) glanced to the Sgt. major. "What do you think Slobbie? This boy deserve his shot at the big time?"

"No more than I do General." snarled the Sgt. Major.

Wynn chuckled. "You are far too important to throw at the Nazis. You are this boys, and others, mentor! What you do here saves lives, and don't you forget it!" Slobotham harrumphed, but leaned against the fireplace, crossing his arms. In the presence of Generals he was incredibly relaxed, and Jenson gaped. He himself was all nerves. "Suppose I'll have to salute the lad then." growled Slobotham. Wynn smiled, clapped his old friend on the shoulder. "Damned if you salute anyone when you're round me old friend. They'll answer to me first!" Forbes coughed nervously, then stood, putting on his best business face. "Get dressed lad. You and a few others are about to have their lives changed. We, ah, don't know quite how yet, mind." He glanced at his friends before nodding. "Let's be on with it then."

=========

An hour later, dressed only in a white medical frock...

Steve glanced about. He'd been led with others he didn't know, seven in total, including three women, and all were a bundle of nerves. One of the women glanced over shy, and smiled at him, before turning away. A young man, and his hormones taking control much of the time, Steve blushed, but couldn't help glancing at the girl every now and again. Suddenly his attention was diverted as Sergeant Major Slobotham opened a door into a white tiled room. Everywhere was white tiled, and it smelt slightly of disinfectant. "Robinson, Sean J! You're up!" A big man, about Steves age, walked past and into the room. General Wynn arrived through another doorway and went into the tiled room. He was dressed in what looked to be a top to toe fire protection suit, but complained under his breath about having to wear it.

The door closed behind. Slobotham explained. "The General is unique. He has superhuman powers like you wouldn't believe - it's been clear and sunny the last few days because of him, for example. But there's something else. He can... 'fix' or join strands in your body, unlocking latent abilities unique to yourselves. We've done three so far. One is in the field. The other two..." he scowled. "Are in training. The fire suit is needed for the General because when he activated a lads powers, the boy burst into flame! The General nigh on lost his moustache!" There were a few sniggers at this, until Slobotham glowered. "The General is a great man, the best! He is also, I believe, the only hope we have in countering the Nazi threat! Without him..." He turned, as everyone did, when Wynn opened the door. The previous candidate had exited the tiled room through an exit in there. "Well send the next one in Slobbie! Don't be bloody gassing like an old woman, man! And get me a drink would you! this is like bloody Russian roulette! be just my luck to have one of these bounders go up in my face again!"

Slobotham rolled his eyes, then turned. "Jenson, Steven M. you're up!"

Steve stepped forward, and glanced about nervously. The girl he'd seen earlier had a worried look on her face, biting her lip. She nodded her encouragement and Steve turned, to go into the room.

=========

General Wynn moaned...

As he slipped the head protection on. "This is for me, not you. I don't want one of you buggers bursting into flames, but that's not likely. Not had two the same yet. Just hope we don't have any more like that idiot Bollinger. God knows how he got through testing. Must know someone. Anyway, son. Relax." with that he placed a hand gently on Steves' neck.

And pulled it away, a second later.

"There!" said Wynn. Steve frowned. Was that it? He looked himself up and down, then questioningly at the General. Wynn smiled "Oh good, at least you're not an exploder. into the next room lad. There the boffins will start the process to figure out just what it is you do..."

=========

2 days later...

"Incredible." said General Dawson, in charge of R&D, called the 'Strange Sciences Section'. It was he who ran the tests, with his aides, to find out what each new superhuman could do. "Not only can you destroy or part metal like it was paper, at a touch, but you can turn it into a liquid form. Liquid to you, solid to me! Incredible! And that circle on your chest... We don't know what it does, but it should help you see in the dark for a few feet." he added, looking at the 6 inch glowing blue circle on Steves chest!

=========

4 days later...

Steve felt like a bit on an idiot. He was standing out in the open with a crude armoured suit of his own devising around him. He'd already endured the taunts of 'tin can' and 'rustbucket' from the others, and was disappointed not to have seen the young woman from the lab since. Today, he was stood in a field in the middle of nowhere with six other recruits. Four had gotten their powers the same time as him. Two were previous recipients. One had fiery hair and eyebrows, and wore an outlandish costume (OOC pics to follow). It was hard to know whether to gape at him or the 9 foot tall goon stood near him. The man was huge! His muscles were enormous, as was his ego! Robert Bollinger, aka Tank Man, was insufferable, egotistical and arrogant. "Come on then tin man! Let's see how tough that armour is!"

Steve hoped his new power was up to it as the big man moved forward. From the sidelines Dawson and other scientists took notes whilst Slobotham and several suited agents, called 'Peelers' were there to keep the peace. "Bollinger!" barked Slobotham. "Mind your lip! We're all on the same side! Go easy on him at first! We don't know his limits!"

Tank Man grinned, then growled "Alright little man, but if this guy wants to play with the big boys..." CLANG!

He caught Steve unaware, and suddenly the world reeled!

Crashing to the floor thirty feet away in the mud, Steve heard the distant laughter, and shouts of Slobotham at the big man. His head rang. The blow had hurt, but Steve felt that had the armour not protected him, the big man would have knocked his head off! Angry, he struggled to rise, ignoring the laughter. His chest tingled, as did his hands, but his mood positively boiled!

OOC Over to you. He doesn't know he can fire energy or fly - yet - but here's where we find out! Silver Sentinel - powers Metal forming/Damage (ignores dividers, 2d6 htk/frame to metallic objects, ignores dividers.) Can form Armour about him (grade 1) but it takes a full round (4 frames) and needs a quantity of metal equal to his own body weight or more to work with. Flight (grade 1) and Energy Attack (Grade 1 - with Quick Blast gimmick. Choose energy type. Recommend blue plasma Smile)

ooc: I havent got the full rules for examples of energy types, I only have the squadron uk basic PDF. Where can i find the full rules or can you tell me the examples? What does blue plasma do?

His pride had taken the biggest beating but the years of training that told him never to rush into an attack and let foolish emotions like rage get the better you were'nt even concept right now.
Rage gripped him, washed over him, penatrating his pours until it caused his teeth to gride against each other matching the time of his breathing.
Steve sprung to his feet and throwing out his tingling hands sreamed "AAAARRRRGGH" To his horror and amazment his arms glowed, a blinding white stronger at his hand and dissolving slowing as it moved up his taut arms. Unknowing that he is hovering just above the ground glowing energy fires from his palms towards Tank man.

ooc: what do i need to do to roll for damage, I dont want to kill him it goes without saying, just hurt him if i can. Steve needs to be taught a lesson though, that he is going to to be a member of a team and can not be a lone gun anymore if he needs to survive and help win this war. He needs to change his selfishness.

OOC I'll sort out the dice rolling - keeps things speedy, and we've had combat go slow and chewy whilst we grind through to and fro of mechanics. Basically you have 15 points of energy to spread out over 5 rounds then it replenishes. You can use up to 10 points in one action (2 frames. There are 4 in a round) or 7 points in 1 frame (your quick blast). Of that, damage is split between HTC (knock them out) or HTK (kill or destroy target) with 2 dice difference between. So for 10 points you can do 5/5 or 6/4 split as you see fit. For 7 its 3/4 split as you see fit. The quick blast burns up your energy faster (7 points in 1 frame) but frees up the other frames to get stuff done. Like keep out of range of this bruiser. Will update when I get home (about to go to work again - thank goodness its the last of these lousy 12 hour shifts tonight... 60hrs for the last five days. Nnngh.)

Codename: Silver Sentinel
alias Steve Jenson

OOC Sentinel uses an action to deliver a 10D6 blast of 6D6Htc/4D6 htk. The energy blast reduces dividers (armour) but Tank Man, despite his name, doesn't have any. He's just big and tough. A roll of 15 hits easily, 21Htc and 11htk.

Steves feet are dug into the floor with the recoil as a pulse of blinding blue energy flies from the palm of his hand! He's as surprised as Tank Man, who doesn't do anything save cry out when the blast strikes him full on in the chest! He hops up to steady himself, slightly surprised at how the ground feels but too intent on what he'd just done to notice anything else.

"Owwwwww!" Tank Man cries, taking a step back. "Are you crazy? Are you trying to kill me or something?"

Suddenly there's silence all around the training ground. They're all looking at Steve, who has the same blue energy roaring out of his feet - as he hovers five feet off the floor! Sgt Major Slobotham calls out "You deserved that. No one like a loudmouth." he walks over to Steve, looking up. "You are armoured, you can fire some kind of beam, or pulse, and it seems you can hover. Or even fly. Son, if we had a dozen like you, we could win the war easily!" laughed the Sgt Major.

Suddenly Tank Man, his pride injured, calls out, charging across the field to where the Sgt Major and Steve are stood/hovering!

"Stand down! Bollinger! That's an order!" snarled Slobotham as he pulled a pistol. The big man was enraged though, and heading straight for Steve!

OOC Tank Man is coming at you again. You have 5 dice of energy left to use and that won't recharge for another 4.5 rounds (or 18 frames). That's along time to get bashed around by someone as big and angry as Tank Man! Over to you...

ooc: so that leaves me with 2 frames right? I would like to fly out of Tank mans reach and not attack any more although I would like to ready a dodge if his attacks if he gets to close.

"Who you calling crazy the man said go easy on me!!" exclaimed Steve. "What are hell is happening to me" he shouted to no one in particularly while staring at his still smouldering hands as the plusing he felt earlier starts to disapate along with his rage.
Looking down at Tank man Steve had a slightly cocky smerk as the thought 'you know this isnt half bad'
"Are you right to fight fair then big man?"

Tank Man growled, looking up, whilst everyone else gaped in wonder! A flying man! It was astounding! Meanwhile the big guy had moved over to where a jeep was parked... Steve was just adjusting his stomach to the feeling of having left it on the floor when he saw what Tank Mans plan was! "Oh no..." he muttered, as the big fellow grabbed hold of the jeep and started to pull it up off the floor!

That's when he saw Slobotham walk calmly up to Tank Man, pistol levelled. "I said that was enough, Lieutenant! And I meant it!" he fired once, twice... four more times into the big man. They were darts, of the kind used to tranquillise animals, in this case Elephants!

"I'll be damned" muttered Slobotham as Tank Man turned, groggy, but still on his feet. Steve saw his chance, willing the energy in his feet to subside, and dropping feet in seconds. He increased the thrust again with a thought and drifted towards Tank Man, distracting him as Slobotham reloaded the weapon! Drunkenly, the big fellow swatted at Steve but it was clear from his rolling eyes that another dart or two would see him over. Clumsily, Steve drifted around again and CLANG!

Smacked tank Man full on in the face with his armoured body!

"OOPS!" he cried out, struggling to level himself. Behind, Tank Man crashed to the floor, and started snoring...

=========

Back on terra firma the other congratulated Steve...

As a dozen soldiers struggled to load Tank Man onto a flatbed truck, Slobotham came over. "I'm impressed son. The scientists will have a field day figuring out what uses they can put you up to, and wishing they could replicate what the General gave you! Like him did with him though, they won't have any luck in figuring out where or how your powers came from or how they work. It's a mystery we're all grateful for though!"

There were more metallic slaps on the back for Steve as he trudged from the field in the company of Scientists who badgered him with questions. What was it like to fly> How fast do you think you can go? The turning circle? How do you fire energy from your hands? The suit - is it cold to wear? Heavy?

=========

Days later...

"On your feet soldier!" yelled a Sergeant. "I mean, sir." he growled, and waited till Steve had risen from his bunk and dressed. The last few days had dragged, being filled with questions and tests, always testing and probing they were. With a sigh Steve figured there'd be more tests today. He was wrong.

Minutes later, he was in the company of Generals Wynn, Dawson and Forbes. The Sgt. Major, Slobotham, sat on the large windowsill half keeping an eye on the room, half on the training yard outside and more potential recruits for the program.

Wynn spoke up first. "Son, we've done some thinking. You, more than the other recruits, have taken to your powers like a duck to water. Your friend Bollinger - Tank Man - is currently depowered and KP duty until he learns some humility." said the General. "What I give, I can take away. That's the theory. In time, the body will adapt and there's not a thing anyone can do about that thereafter, including me. The boffins reckon your powers will increase in range and effectiveness, and possibly you'll gain new ones too. If you live long enough. We want you to head to Scotland. Loch Ness to be precise. There are reports of... something ... in the depths. A monster say the locals. We want to make sure it's nothing more sinister - Nazis. It will be your first test, and scientists from the odd squad... sorry." he said, glancing at Dawson "I mean the strange sciences section, they will be sending people along to monitor and observe. If nothing else they'll be filming you swooping about and you'll be used in our propaganda. Even the PM has said he wants to meet you, though that Chamberlain fellow isn't fit to tie your shoelaces!"

The other Generals prickled at that. "What?" huffed Wynn. "The bloody idiot should have seen war coming! Peace in our time my backside! Tell that to the Poles! I should think the French are next, though those buffoons half deserve what's coming their way. The British Expeditionary Force will see the Nazis off though." He turned to Steve. "After this mission son, you'll be part of that force. Are you ready to fight for your country son?" An eyebrow raised, the old man had a glint in his eye - pride - pride at the young men and women willing to throw down everything they had to fight the Nazi scourge!

"Any questions?" offered Forbes.

"Any questions?" offered Forbes.

"Only one sir, when do we start?" Steve said feeling confident in his new found abilities.
'I wonder what Jerry is up to this time, monster indeed, Its more like a super weapon of sorts and unlikey a u-boat in a loch' thought Steve to himself as the Generals carried on explaining possible tactics and applications of Steve's powers.

[i]ooc: after the debriefing and I have read any documents on this suspected "lock ness monster" (where do you come up with these ideas lol) I would like to ask around about the other test subjects a briefly meet, there powers and about the woman I noticed. Also before we leave for scotland is it possible to bring along my trusty old rifle (Helena) more out of sentiment than anything.

Codename: Silver Sentinel
alias Steve Jenson

"Good man. Right away! Get packed. Anything you need, put in a requisition for it. Peelers 28, Jonathan Carruthers and 41, Nathanial Barnes, will be going with you. The SSS will provide their own boffins, and I'll leave that to Dawson. Good luck! Even if you don't find anything, we'll have our boys film you swooping about over the loch. If anything goes wrong, falling into water will hurt less than crashing into rocks." said Forbes.

=========

An hour later, in a packed and noisy room...

Steve went into the mess hall. It was fairly crowded, around tea time, and everyone was in uniform, meaning those with extraordinary abilities weren't able to be made out, though Steve picked them out after a look. They were sat on the same table, all excitedly gassing about the training and how their powers had progressed.

OOC The following I will recopy in the 'Notable Information' section for everyone to read. Even though 'officially' you guys are the heroes in training, you as a PC will be shunted up to the first team, whilst the others will take longer to filter through. In game terms I waived the costs on higher grades of powers in some cases as they only start with 3 powers, so at most 5 if all the slots were sunk into one power (that's mechanics stuff, feel free to ignore!). Some have more powers, but weaknesses to compensate. We have:

Justiciars (Vanguard team 2)

Silver Sentinel
Steve Jenson, male, early 20s
Powers: Flight, Energy Blast, Armour, Metal morphing/deforming (used to make armour and inflict 2d6htk/frame against metal objects, dividers ignored)
Notes: Honourable. Father died at the tail end of WW1, Mother missing, presumed dead after the Nazis sunk the SS Athenia. Desperate to get back at the Nazis.

Tank Man

Robert Bollinger, male, early 20s
Powers: Larger (taller), Strength Grade 1, Vigour
Notes: Arrogant and insufferable. Already reprimanded (depowered) by General Wynn after only a few days.

Mist Maiden
Jane Serford, female, early 20s
Powers: Intangibility, Weather Control, stunner
Notes: Shy, pretty, feels out of her depth. Defers to the others. Combat role limited due to needing to be tangible to affect anything.

Thunderclap
Ian McDermott, male, mid 20s
Powers: Energy Attack (range touch, sonics, Quick Blast and High Power) Tough Skin, Vigour
Notes: Formerly a boxing champion for his regiment, now delivers a 'sonic boom' when he uses his power to punch something. Good team player.

Fastback
Mary Tremlett, female, mid 20s
Powers: Speed Grade 3, super speed punches (at a cost of 3Htc she can 'buy' an extra 1D6Htc damage when she attacks. Whilst this means she can do a reasonable amount of damage, she ends up hurting herself quite a lot into the bargain.)
Notes: Confident, joker, cheeky, way with the men. Since gaining her powers any use of them requires her calorific intake to quadruple for the day. Without enough food she will take 1D6 htc/hour.

Spiderweb
Harry Burns, male, late teens
Powers: Speed, Agility, Wall Crawling
Notes: Cocky, joker, feels a need to impress and justify his place in the team. Uses wrist mounted hand guns that fire a variety of munitions. Carries experimental compacted 'net bombs' that explode and cover the target in strands of sticky web glue that slow them down.

Void
Charles Hemmingsworth II, male, late twenties
Powers: Magic Grade 2 (Energy Strike - speciality, Hallucinations, Conjuring, Hypnosis)
Notes: Considers the other team members to be children. Haughty, imperious, all business. Little or no sense of humour but underneath it he is fiercely loyal to the team and would die for them. Dresses in all black, head to toe, with a black cloak. His energy strike is 'black' cold energy, and his Hallucinations tend to involve darkness, as do the creatures he summons from the 'void of his cloak'.

Sterling Silver
William Buxton, male, mid twenties
Powers: Strength, Flight, Vigour
Notes: Poster boy. Dashing good looks, gets on with everyone. The ladies love him, the men want to follow him into battle. Feels weight of responsibility on his shoulders as he is a natural leader. He's also homosexual, something frowned upon back then.

Garland
Marianne Keene, female, mid twenties
Powers: Plant Control (a form of field manipulation. Can alter the movement and growth of plants at will, but can't give them abilities they don't have) Regeneration (only when in touch with soil. Even if killed, a small piece of her in contact with soil will regenerate completely. She is essentially immortal and ageless, but the process of total regeneration takes weeks for limbs, months for the torso and head) Energy Attack (a form of spore blast - she can fire a torrent of various living plants which grow in the air and attack living targets. No effect on non living objects. Quick Blast and Reduced Dividers) Vigour (though fire bases attacks do double damage against her)
Notes: Marianne becomes green skinned with leaves for hair and bark covering her comic code authority areas in order to use any of her powers. Essentially, she has become an elemental, though no one knows the true extent of her abilities (in other words, they don't know she can regenerate yet). Calm, motherly, reluctant fighter. Team medic.

Anchor
Jock Hanrahan, male, mid twenties
Powers: Strength Grade 2, Larger Grade 2 (powers are either on, or off. There is no variance, and his weight is nearer the ton mark rather than 400lbs. This presents problems on wooden floors, soft ground, water etc)
Notes: Always laughing, the scot turns deadly serious on the subject of Nazis. Despite not being particularly resistant to damage he's always at the forefront of any battle.

OOC with regards equipment, feel free to add anything in reason that you could carry. Some kind of machine gun or pistol to mount to your armour, for instance. Remember you don't have super strength (yet) so lugging something about will be tiring, even if your armour is essentially weightless. Pick a lady from the list - she can be the one who had eyes for you, and we'll go from there.

ooc: miss Keene aka Garland (I kind of have a thang for posion Ivy ..... sorry) As for equipment: a hip holster pistol, a thomson or some thing like would be nice that along with my rifle (attached to my back pack assuming i have one) and if not to cheeky a couple of knifes , mostly for show so Steve gives off the 'dont mess' look.

After queing up for what seemed likes hours Steve was served the usual military unappetizing slop that was proberly best left unidentified. He turn around to see the others all sat on the table, then he spotted miss keene.
"Hello again, is this seat taken?" not wanting to sound to forward but unable to stop smiling at her.

ooc: if miss Keene agree's (I hope so I'll look like a prat else)

After a couple of minutes of uncomfortable silence Steve said "so Bollinger, thats a hell of a right hook eh?" unsure of how to start a conversation with the young lady he hardly knew sitting next to him. "No hard feelings ay old boy?" he continued extending his hand as a sign for Bollinger to shake it.

Bollinger glanced across at Steve as he took a seat after a smile from Marianne (Garland). "You got in a lucky blow!" he spat, spooning at the army slops. "Now, I'm on KP duty cause o you, and the old fart took my powers away! Next time, it's gonna just be you n me, and..."

"And you'll get out of breath from all the yapping you do!" said young Harry, the cocksure teen who would be known as Spiderweb.

Bollinger growled, but knew, depowered, even the weedy looking youngster would avoid all of his attacks with ease and wear him down with punches of his own.

"Lap it up kid, but just you wait. When I've got my powers back I'll show you..."

The gruff scot, Jock Hanrahan aka Anchor, leaned over the table. "Would ye're shut up? Ye're interruptin' ma meal an ah need all th' concentration ah can't get ta eat this muck, alright? Any more yappin' outta you an ah'll drag ya outside fer a kickin'."

Bollinger scowled, looked about the table, and left. Jock shrugged, leaned over and speared what appeared to be a potato with a fork. "Waste not want not."

Marianne smiled and turned to Steve. "So, you fly, and make metal obey your every whim! Sounds like you get to go on a mission first out of all of us too! You must have impressed the boss!" she teased.

Mark Harford, Hothead, looked over, grinning. "He's not the only one! I got my first mission too! Top secret. I'd have to kill you if I told you!" he smiled, smug grin on his face. Steve smiled - they were joking but the very deadly business of fighting the Nazis superhumans would come all too soon. By what few accounts there were, they were more numerous and experienced. They had a head start, in other words. He concentrated on his food, as Marianne added "Won't be long before all of us are n the field. I think they're trialling you two, and the rest of us will learn team work. I'm jealous, but glad in a way too. Whatever happened to us is so strange, so powerful!" She shuddered.

The crowded mess hall was noisy by now. Suddenly a big burly soldier walked past, 'accidentally' tipping his food all over Harry, the youngster. "Ha! Sorry k...unh?" Harry had been in his seat one second, stood up in front of the bruiser the next! The food was all over the bench and the floor. "Here..." said Harry. "Let me help you with that." He leaned down, scooped a couple of handfuls of food and tossed them at the soldier, then wiped his hands on the soldiers front! "Have a nice day!" chirped Harry.

"Why you...!" started the soldier. Suddenly his friends on neighbouring tables started to rise... this didn't look good!

OOC Depends on how much you want to get involved in a mess room brawl as to how we play this out, but it would be your first real taste of action - Bollinger wasn't much of a match for you Smile

Steve quickly got up and wedged himself between the two angery men "gentlemen please, the fight is with the nazi's, Im sure it was just a miss understanding right Harry?"
"no" Harry cherped in.
Steve have just enough time to give Harry a look like one an older brother would give when a dinner tray was lauched at the back of his head by one of the other solders, bringing him to his knee's.
"Ok them god dam it if thats the way you want it" Steve said under his breath placing one hand on the tray and one on the metal table leg. The metal liquidfied on to the floor and reshaped plates of armour KONK KONK KONK was the suttle sound of the silvery metal armour attaching its self on to him as the rest of the liquid filled the gaps.
Steve was on his feet when the last of the armour formed over his face. "LETS DANCE" Steve shouted as upper cut the first solder as his eyes glazed over with blanced metal and the suit was complete.

Knives, forks, table legs, trays, steel bowls with food in, all seemed to flow towards Steves outstretched hand! It was a considerable effort on his part to call the metal too him, and forks fair flew across the room (OOC that's something I just threw in - we'll have to work out is he has a range more than 3m or so mind, because that would add considerable value to the power). Men cried out, then stopped, stunned, as they saw the metal flow like water, or a living thing, across Steves body!

Jock/Anchor laughed out loud and instantly transmuted to a dull iron form, gaining several feet of width and depth. Just before he fell through the wooden floor! Submerged to his chest, he growled, and men jumped back, alarmed! There were cries for calm, and others for "get them!" "Sort em out lads" and "Get the weirdos!". Because the soldiers blood was up, they seemed not to notice so much the exotic and impossible feats going on in front of them!

Mist Maiden
turned into an insubstantial gas cloud, Thunderclap fell back on his boxing skills, striking out at some of the bigger more able soldiers whilst reining in his powerful strike that gave him his name, Fastback disappeared, to reappear stood on a table asking for calm, whilst soliders about felt their hair ruffled by her incredible speed! Young Harry, Spiderweb, ducked several punches and made things worse by laughing at his attacker! Sterling Silver - William Buxton - stood up, palms held out "There's no need for ..." SMACK! A punch to the side of his head sent him reeling, but he was made of tough stuff!

Marianne, Garland, changed, his clothes splitting and falling away as her hair turned into leaves, her skin green and bark forming on her chest and loins! "Now now!" she shouted, "There's no need for ..." CLANG! A female soldier whipped a tray across her face, silencing her and sending her falling backwards over the table!

And then all was chaos! Steve was knocked about to the left and right as blows rained down on his armoured form, which did an admirable job of soaking up the hits, but he would have bruises nonetheless! Soon the soldiers were fighting everyone - including each other. Sat at the table, quietly reading a book, Charles Hemmingsworth, Void, leaned back to avoid a flying soldier who'd just been slugged, and lifted his plate as another slide the length of the table! Reaching over calmly, he picked his mug of tea up in time before someone's head slammed into the table where it had been, and frowned as he lost his spot on the page as a fork thudded into the wood next to the book, quivering!

Though not endowed with superhuman strength, Steves relative invulnerability meant that he would outlast most if not all of the regular soldiers, but they were up for a fight and there was little give in them! In a way, Steve was proud, though he hoped there'd still be some fight left for the Nazis!

OOC anything you want to add, feel free before the fight winds to a close...

OOC Essentially Garland is a living plant. I would've thought you'd be safe from the clutches of Beelzebub for a while yet.

The booted foot crunched on a shattered chair. The body that belonged to it looked out at the devastation. MPs stood guard, scowls all over their faces as Medics carried soldiers away on stretchers. What was left of the mess hall was being doused down after catching fire when Hothead came in late for his dinner and got involved. Sgt Major Slobotham turned to the Captain of the MPs, who was even now shouting and bawling at the top of his voice about someone losing their head for this, and "freak show will be shut down, mark my words!"

Slobotham walked up to the man, who was flanked by several burly guards, and snarled "Get the **** out of my sight before I give you and your goons the kicking of a lifetime. You outrank me... sir... " he snarled "But I'm prepared to spend time in nick for the satisfaction of kicking the snot out of you."

"Why you..." started the Captain, his face going red. He turned, waving half a dozen big MPs forward... who stopped when Anchor walked up to Slobotham. "Trouble sir?"

"You've caused enough Lieutenant" said Slobotham, "But anyone wanting to cause more is perfectly welcome to discuss the finer points with the Generals when they..."

The cars rolled up. Forbes was livid, Wynn was impassive. The new superhumans were lined up to attention as the Generals approached, some with their powers still active.

"So much for keeping it a secret" said Wynn. Forbes shot him a look, then turned. "RIGHT! Who started all this?" He glared at the MP Captain, Slobotham, then the superhumans. Young Harry was sweating, nervous. He glanced to the left and right, then frowned, looking down, and about to step forward...

OOC Will Steve take one for the team or let young Harry get his punishment? The others will speak up but figured to let you get yours in first if you had something to say...

Young Harry was sweating, nervous. He glanced to the left and right, then frowned, looking down, and about to step forward...

Steve moved in front of Harry giving him a wink "Sir" Steve said standing abruptly to attention, "It was my fault sir, there was a misunderstanding and one of the solders hit me over the back of the head, thats when I let it get the better of me. Sorry sir it was very unprofessional of me and there is no exuse"
It took forever for Wynn to answer as Steve thought to himself he couldnt let poor Harry take the blame, I mean he looked like a nervous mess. Could he be starting to care for people again at last ......... his thoughts changed to his family who he loved so and look where that got him.

ooc: looks like Steve is trying to make friends for once by taking the wrap. Maybe he'll be a team player after all. If he is going to be a freak he mite as well be a freak with friends and not on his own lol

Forbes flew off the handle, raging about responsibility and duty, how we had enough on our hands without fighting amongst ourselves and so on. General Wynn took a look at the soldiers being carted off to the infirmary and spoke up "They showed promise and team work."

Forbes waved his old friend silent. "I want them punished! There needs to be discipline!" He leaned in to Steve. "Do you understand me soldier? If you abuse your powers as you see fit, you're, in turn, not fit to wear the uniform or represent this country!"

Wynn sighed, walking up to Steve and giving him a friendly pat on the shoulder. His fingertip brushed the base of Steves neck ever so slightly (OOC if he still had the armour on, it would have had to be removed, when the bosses turned up...) "Don't worry son. We all have to learn in our own way. Same for you." he said, patting Harry on the head.

Instantly Steve felt like something had gone. He glanced around in alarm at Wynn. "What did..."

General Wynn held up his hands. "It's for your own good. Bollinger got the same punishment. The others will have all privileges revoked and you will all be busted down to Private, but you will continue the training. Steve and Harry, a night in the cells for you two!"

The others started to protest, but Wynn waved them silent. "At any point, I believe I can take away your powers. If it's with a touch, it's temporary. If you want to keep them, you need to learn how to behave and act responsibly. Just because someone else provokes you, you must realise you are NOT to use your abilities against your fellow soldiers! Those men now despise you, fear you and some may hate you for the kicking you've handed out! What good is that? One day they will be required to fight alongside you! They'll talk to their friends, spread gossip and rumours, and before you know it morale will hit rock bottom - that the common soldier is no longer needed and they have super freaks to do their work for them!" barked Wynn, angry for the first time any of them had seen. Even Forbes, technically his superior, kept quiet!

"Now... you will set to your training with a vengeance! You two!" he yelled at Steve and Harry. "To the prison area! MPs! Escort them! Captain!" he barked at the Captain of the MPs. "Another word from you and you'll join them!"

"Now hold on just..." started the Captain. Wynn waved him silent. "Lock that idiot up as well. He can file a report in triplicate about my treatment of him, but when I require discipline, it's from everyone, and that's me included. This army needs TEAMWORK, gentlemen - and ladies. From the lowest rank to the highest, you are part of a military machine! These young men and women are a special part, but a cog nonetheless. And right this moment... they need some work to get functioning properly!"

The MPs stood to attention and ordered Steve and Harry, along with their own Captain, over to the detention area...

OOC I assume Steve goes...?

=========

"Pretty Boring in here isn't it?"

Said Slobotham through the open cell door. Steve rubbed his eyes. An uncomfortable night in a cell without his powers, not knowing when they were coming back, had reminded him of his duty and responsibility. "Young Harrys' had enough already. Too much for the lad, and he's a tad upset. Must admit, you lot let the old man down. Thankfully for you, he's the forgiving type. But he won't forget. On your feet and to the showers soldier! There's a job you need to do!"

=========

Steve sighed.

He'd finished painting one side of the hastily constructed new mess hall that carpenters were still working on. All around him quite a few of the soldiers who'd been in the brawl hammered, sawed and pieced together the new mess hall, whilst Harry tarred the roof and Steve painted the walls. They'd been at it for a full day now and he ached all over.

Suddenly he saw the soldier he'd been fighting with in the mess hall come over. The man was a mess of bruises, limping slightly, but still big and menacing!

OOC How will Steve react? That determines what happens next Smile

"You put up a hell of a fight, you and your friends. Im hoping you gentalman have got the idea that we are 'freaks' out of your heads ........we ARE on the same side like it or not. Think of us as super weapons you can use to win this war and stomp out the nazi's. We have got your backs and one day god willing we hope you have got ours?" Steve left the question floating in the air unsure if the solder would answer with his fist or a hand shake.

Steve was starting to learn that everyone needed a team they could rely on if they were going to win this war before it goes on for years like the last great one after all he wasnt on a skirmish anymore this is flat out war, a war that his family tryed so hard to stop from happening again and he needed friends and allies.

Slobotham, leaning against the side of a jeep a way away, turned to General Wynn, sat in the jeep. They watched as Steve shook hands with the soldier, even sharing a laugh afterwards when the soldier picked up a spare brush and set to helping Steve finish up. "He'll do." said Slobotham. When there was no response, he turned. "General?"

Wynn nodded without a word, looking on the youngster. "Change of plan. Young Harry has worked like three men would to prove himself, and I've an idea that this young fellow..." he said, pointing a pipe at Steve as he painted "Has the makings of a leader. Get them in my office when they've finished up." He drove the jeep away himself before Slobotham could call him back, knowing he'd have a 3 mile run. Then he chuckled.

=========

Breathless, but having enjoyed the run, Steve and Harry...

Caught Slobotham up. The older man had kept a punishing pace, but he'd been impressed by the two young men. Rather than prove a point and try to beat him, they'd gone their own pace and helped each other up the toughest hills. "You'll do." he said quietly to himself. "Right lads, before you hit the shower, in to see the General." He waved the way towards a large building where an MP led the pair to the Generals office. Opening the door himself, General Wynn bid them enter. General Forbes was there, and had a flushed face. Clearly the two had been arguing and Wynn had not only 'pulled rank' but argued the other man - technically his superior officer - down. Given Wynns importance not only to the war effort, but the free world, Forbes knew that whatever his old friend said, essentially, went.

With a sigh he reached for the whisky and poured himself a shot.

Wynn waved the two young men to seats. "You're back in. We're all in this together. No matter what our powers are, we use them for the good of all, not for selfish purposes, and certainly not to belittle enlisted men - whether they deserve it or not!"

"Reinstated as lieutenants. Don't abuse my trust gentlemen, and don't let your country down. You are the first of those who will be our best, last hope to beat the Nazis and their war machine. If you fail, we all lose. On your feet." said Wynn. He shook the pair of your hands and Forbes spoke up. "There's been a disturbance in Scotland. I've already asked a field agent up there to check things out, but she's been up to her eyes in another matter. This is your chance to redeem yourselves. We get a number of calls about strange sightings and occurrences every day. Most are poppycock. This one has been repeated by different people, including a policeman. They mention something about a 'monster' in Loch Ness. We want you to check it out and make sure it's not a bloody submarine or some such. Find out what it is, then report back. You'll have a dedicated team of boffins going with you to monitor your progress, support agents, known as Peelers, to do the leg work and the whole thing will be filmed for us to put on the big screen, raise morale, get peoples minds off the conflict to come. Do well, and you'll be joining the rest of the crew to meet up with the British Expeditionary Force, which has been building in France along the Belgium Border. We expect the Nazis to attack France that way. This, in comparison, will be a short holiday for you chaps. Comments? Questions?"

Harry was too busy doing back flips and whooping to hear most of that. "I'M BACK!" he yelled. "WHOOOPEEEE!!!!"

Steve turned, seeing a metal paperweight trickle across a desk like liquid towards his hand. Spiderweb was back, and so was he. The Silver Sentinel....

ooc: excellent Im back. Do you need me to write up a character sheet sometime?

Later that week the Silver Sentinel along with a group of peelers traveled to loch ness.
"I hope you boffins realise I might have to go diving, I dont suppose you have some kind of hi tech equipment to allow me to breath under water rather than using heavy deep sea diving gear 'coz I'll be damed if im diving down there without my armour up, who knows what gerry might have down there?" Steve inquired while inspecting his equipment.

ooc:I dont know if I can breath under water thanks to my suit or the boffins have some thing to allow me to wear my suit and have breathing equipment?

"After they set up camp a few miles out of town Steve decided to head towards the local police station to gather as much infomation about the 'monster' as possible from the police officer before diving head first into the unknown.
"We have the statment already from the officer" said one of the peelers
"I just want to hear what he has to say in person seen as we are so close to the town, you can never have to much intel ............. and dont worry I'll behave ......." Steve said as he head towards town away from the peelers ear shot.

ooc:the name of the officer would be useful for continuity. Assuming the officer is still alive do I find any additional infomation? Or does he he/she know of anyone in town that might be helpfull?

World War II - Silver Sentinel Issue #1 Empty Re: World War II - Silver Sentinel Issue #1

Post  Admin Mon Jan 17 2011, 23:29

Codename: Silver Sentinel
alias Steve Jenson

OOC No scuba gear for 3 years or so, according to a history of scuba diving. Emile Gagnan and Jacques Cousteau came up with an aqua lung, but according to the source started selling it in 1943. In the middle of a war? Sounds a bit odd.

The Boffins scratched their heads and set to composing ideas and design sketches as they bounced about in the bus commandeered for the party of 15 or so. one of the Peelers, number 52, a man named Joseph Morton, spoke up. "Bear in mind..." he paused and added "Sir, that when armoured up you are giving yourself a heavy coating of metal. Underwater might not be your best environment. Maybe there's something else we can come up with... I don't know. A boat with a glass bottom?"

The Boffins laughed, causing the Peeler to frown and shrug. "It was just an idea."

An hour later the scientists had come up with several glass bottomed boat designs and were arguing over which one to use. The Peeler rolled his eyes and shook his head. The bus rolled and rattled its way on towards Fort Augustus, the town at the base of the Loch.

=========

Having motorcycled into town thanks to the 3 bikes stored on the bus...

Steve, Harry and Peeler Morton pulled up outside the local police station.

Inside, the sergeant sat at a desk looked up as he saw the suited bowler hatted man and the two fellows in army uniform. Not quite sure what else to do, he stood and saluted, then inquired as to what he could do for them. The Policeman, Sergeant Mcilroy laughed "Och. Tis just an old wives tale. That say'd, ma police constable, old Wullie, swore blind he saw th' thing break th' surface o'er th' water an that it was a monster. Ah said maybe a seal, an he said it were naught o'er th' kind, and Fergus Macbeth saw it too, fer they were gassin' like old women on th' shores at th' time. Aye, an likely havin' a wee dram too." he chuckled. "But by all means, take a look doon there. It's cold though, so ah'd suggest ye're best off wrappin' up. Here's Wullies' statement an' he lives just doon the road, number 44, on th' left hand sign next door tae Taggarts store. He's got a few days off, so ah reckon he'd jump at th' chance for tae tell his tale, an' in th' process get a few free drinks doon th' local." he added.

=========

PC Wullie McTavish stood on the shores of Loch Ness, the trio of agents behind him...

"T'was o'er there" said the aging policeman. Like McIlroy, he was near retirement age, and the local community still had need of them having seen most of the young men enlist. The small group looked out over the deep, dark waters. It was a beautiful land, unspoilt and miles away from anything resembling a war. The Peeler sighed, huddling his borrowed sheepskin coat closer. "We're wasting our time. Look at the size of this lake!" The Policeman shrugged, nipping back another sip of whisky. "Ah knoo what ah saw, young un." he growled. "An it weren't nae submarine, nae a seal or a whale. It had a long neck.. like that!"

World War II - Silver Sentinel Issue #1 21edpuh

The small group looked out across the loch, struggling at first to see what the old alcoholic had pointed out... then... "By jove!" gasped the Peeler. "I do believe the old sop is onto something!" He fished for binoculars, pulling them out to scan about and home in... "It's NOT a seal, nor a whale... It's... eating fish? And... arggh.. it's gone under!"

Steve looked out. He'd seen it too. He'd also seen a flash of white, a dot, in the distance on the far shores in the woods. It looked awfully like the sheepskin jumper a seaman would wear. Of the Naval kind. Perhaps there was something else going on here... besides of course a monster which couldn't exist - but did!

"PC McTavish I think you better head back now, If you could tell the station and warn civilians that the army are using this area as a firing range 'till further notice and keep this infomation under your hat In the intersted of national security I'll see that you are promoted. Thank you very much u've been a jolly good help"

"Right" Steve said now looking at the peelers "This sheepskin chap obviously is'nt one of ours, better tell the boys back home then I think we better take a closer look dont you?"

ooc: ok Im getting closer to the seaman (tee he he *cough* sorry) as close as possible with out beening seen, I want to see where this chap is going.

Minutes later Jenson was crouched behind some rocks following the man in the sheepskin jumper through his binoculars signaling to the peelers to hold back while he crept on a head...........

The small group, having sent the policeman on his way (although the pound note the Peeler slipped him to spend in the pub sent him on his way faster than a promise of advancement!) made their way through the trees around the loch.

Minutes later, the crouched behind rocks and trees to spy on the furtive figure in naval uniform. From this distance it wasn't clear who the seaman served - allies or axis. The man (OOC around 100m) was looking out over the waters of the loch, and had a small campfire (unlit at the moment) along with simple camping gear - a tarpaulin used as a lean to against a tree. The rifle propped against another tree near to hand looked military issue rather than any a civilian might use for hunting!

"What do you suppose he's doing?" asked Harry. "Looking for the monster?"

The Peeler was just about to speak when he pointed a finger out across the water. In the distance, the water broke and the creature the trio had seen earlier was splashing about... the seaman quickly reached for his rifle!

OOC The man is 100m away. Even flying you wouldn't get to him in time, but the pistol might distract him. Can't imagine it would be very accurate at 100m though. Unless you have another plan Smile

OOC: would Harrys sticky bombs reach him? Or use his speed and sticky. If so I'd like to say
" Quick Harry stick bomb now, no questions" pointing to the man.

If not hows using the Arrow to signal a pincer movement to Harry, then flying at the seaman firing my energy blast in front of him (as low damage as possible) just to get his attention assuming I cant target his rifle at that distance, by that time Im hoping Harry would have got a sneak attack on him catching him off guard (remember I want to question him not kill)

Ether way when we get hold of him....................

IC:"Who are you? And what the hell are you doing here?" Steve asked the man standing in front of him crossed armed as Harry had him restrained.

"I wont ask you again, who are you" asking this time as he roughly going through the mans pockets.
