The tri-star system works by rolling low on 2d10. Double 1 is auto success. You roll below stat+difficulty modifier (so an easier difficulty would increase your chance of success). Combat looked a bit clunky from what I saw, would have to read it in detail, but anything that uses a full page flowchart to track combat is either too easy or too hard I find. I suspect it'd be easy and my old rubbish brain wasn't playing at 1.30 in the morning.

Know what you mean. I'm currently trying to read my way through the Dresden RPG books, two of them. It's based on the Fate or Fudge system, which I've never played before. The books are fun to read though, even if I never play them.

They are "written" by Billy, the gamer werewolf geek from the Dresden books, with comments added by Dresden and Bob, his talking skull, for clarification purposes. Those things are a hoot! They even have a sample player whose name is Jim B., and Dresden makes a snarky comment or two about that gamer, with Bob putting in to say that Dresden is treating the fictional player as if he was real. Very Happy

So many games, so little time.

I guess it'd be less work (won't say easy) to take the 3.0 or 3.5 D&D rules set and convert many of the spells into superhuman powers. I have one or two lesser known Supers rogs that did exactly the thing you describe David (jump on OGL bandwagon) and they are gathering dust in a box in the loft. The SAS (silver aged sentinels...) game I'm thinking of is the tri-stat version which is based on the Big Eye Small Mouth japanese themed game (or at least I think - it's been ages since I took a look). I suppose that's the problem with us old farts. When we memorise a game system and get to know it any new game that comes along is an uphill struggle unless it's so easy and intuitive that it's no bother to read through. I can say I felt that way about D&D from 3.0 on. Have the books, tried to read 3.0, and the 3.5 book is pristine, as new as the day I bought it and untouched... the 4.0 books I have are second hand, and someone must have felt the same because they look, feel and smell new. Either that or it's just me (because I think you two daves play D&D Smile Must be me then... ) If I get chance tomorrow I will dig both versions out and skim through. If the system is worth a shot at running, I'll explain it as easy as I can and stick something up in the Lore Knights section after the current issue, if anyone is interested.

I've got both versions as well but have never played it. I know the d20 version was ripped to pieces that it wasn't as good as the other version. It came out when the d20 system was made an open source system that any game could use and everyone and their brother came out with games using the d20 system after that. The thing I did like about the d20 system version was that you could take levels in the other 'power sets' or whatever they called them, to multi-class like you can in D&D.

But I don't know how balanced it is or how well combat runs for it.

I've got the tri-stat and d20 versions of the game (in pdf as well) but I have to admit... I've only read the intro (of the 'deluxe' version, not sure if it's the same in other versions) which has the history of superheroes in. No idea how it plays. I think I read a review that wasn't that complementary (unless I have it confused with another) but the book is lovely to look at, great layout, and a big hefty tome. I thought about buying a spare to use as a reference copy and run a Lore Knights game with it (I'm open to all suggestions as to system) but it hardly ever comes up for sale and is pricey too!

If the version you've shown is any good Ross I'll dig it out of the loft and give it a read, so just let me know Smile
